Brumbies forced into front row reshuffle

Regular tight head Dan Palmer will miss the Brumbies weekend encounter against the Sharks, having been ruled out with illness, which has prompted Jake White to reshuffle his front row for the key clash.

Wallaby prop Ben Alexander moves over from the loose head side to replace Palmer, with Irishman Ruadhri Murphy coming into the starting lineup in the number 1 jersey as a result. Murphy played off the bench last week and his spot there will now be occupied by Scott Sio. Apart from these changes, the forward pack remains the same as last week’s unit, which helped to record a good home win against the Highlanders.

Amongst the backs, the return of Matt Toomua has prompted a few positional changes, with Christian Lealiifano moving from flyhalf to inside centre and Pat McCabe moving to the right wing to make way for that switch. Henry Speight switches from 14 to 11, with Joe Tomane dropping to the bench. Tevita Kuridrani, who played in 22 last week, makes way as a result.

Brumbies: 15 Jesse Mogg, 14 Pat McCabe, 13 Andrew Smith, 12 Christian Lealiifano, 11 Henry Speight, 10 Matt Toomua, 9 Ian Prior, 8 Ben Mowen (capt), 7 Michael Hooper, 6 Peter Kimlin, 5 Sam Carter, 4 Leon Power, 3 Ben Alexander, 2 Stephen Moore, 1 Ruadhri Murphy.
Reserves: 16 Anthony Hegarty, 17 Scott Sio, 18 Scott Fardy, 19 Ita Vaea, 20 Nic White, 21 Zack Holmes, 22 Joe Tomane.

  • Impressed by how the Brumbies are playing this year. No big stars but they’re getting results. Guys, I won’t lie: I’m a little nervous about this one. We need to win. If we go four losses and 2 wins, it’s going to be a slippery slope.
