News from Dunedin is that former Chiefs flyhalf Mike Delany looks set to a return to New Zealand rugby, after an injury crisis in the Highlanders ranks has prompted them to recall the one-cap All Black from Japan.

Delany played for the Waikato side last season, but before that was a regular for the southerners and at 29 years of age, will relish the opportunity to represent the Highlanders once more in Super Rugby. Injuries have curtailed the seasons of both Lima Sopoaga and Colin Slade, leaving rookie Chris Noakes at the ‘Landers only fit flyhalf. Coach Jamie Joseph has confirmed to the New Zealand Herald that the side is in talks with Delany; it’s not clear whether he may return in time to face the Stormers this weekend.

In further good news for Jospeh’s side, All Black hooker Andrew Hore is expected to return from injury to face the Stormers.
