Bismarck ruled out

After announcing yesterday that Bismarck du Plessis stood a good chance of being passed fit to face the Blues on Friday, the Sharks have done an abrupt about-turn and have summoned the Bok hooker home from tour.

Details are sketchy, but according to Craig Lewis of the Daily News, the quadricep injury that sidelined du Plessis in the build-up to last week’s game has flared up again and as a result, he’s already on his way back to Durban, to spend an unspecified period on the sidelines.

Craig Burden will start his second successive (and third ever) Super Rugby game at hooker, with the Sharks XV’s Kyle Cooper on his way to join the team in Auckland as cover.

  • It all boils down to player rotation. But Plum is clearly not a fan of player management .

  • I glad Burden is OK. His injury looked quite serious at the time. It was stupid to tour with only 2 hookers. Cooper probably won’t see much game time unless Burden gets injured because off jetlag and he hasn’t practised lineouts with the guys yet.

  • @Pokkel (Comment 4) : Burds went down with cramp – it happens if you get no game time.

    He’ll be fine for Friday.

  • Big loss. Get well soon Bissie. Hopefully Burden and Cooper will do some damage in his absence.

  • @robdylan (Comment 5) :

Do you think that Bissie having to play the last 15min aggrevated his injury? Is it the same injury he carried into the Canes match?

  • @Pokkel (Comment 8) : It is the same injury so he probably did aggravate it. Hindsight says Cooper should have been on tour and played from the bench last weekend but such is life.

  • @SharksRTB (Comment 3) : yes a WHOLE lot more difficult! Not because of Burden, but our lack of a fetcher/person to slow ball down we pretty much will be battling again :( well I am a pessimist and I am the first to admit it, but Saturday we are hosting two boys from PBHS who are coming to play Rugby so maybe that will be a blessing in disguise will not be able to watch the game :???:
