A lot has been said in recent days about several high profile appointments to the Bok coaching and management team, but if you’ll all indulge me, I’d like to take a few moments to also congratulate De Jongh Borchardt on his elevation to the Springbok Communications Manager role.
De Jongh earned his stripes as a rugby writer with Beeld and Rapport, before being appointed as SARU’s Digital Communications Manager a few years back and it was in this latter role (as the man responsible for running the excellent www.sarugby.net web site) that I have got to know him reasonably well. Over that time, I have always found De Jongh to be courteous, polite and helpful to a fault and to epitomise a sort of quiet professionalism that is, unfortunately, so often lacking in today’s world.
Never one to shy away from delivering constructive criticism when it’s due (and I’ve had my share of that!), De Jongh manages to do so with genuine empathy and humility and I know that do a better job of running this place and writing stories as a result of the advice he so freely gives me. The fact that he’s a dyed-in-the-wool Blue Bull is, of course, a clear fault that prevents him from being perfect, but I guess we all have our cross to bear!
So congrats, De Jongh! I know that the Bok job is the culmination of a lot of hard work over the years and I also know that it’s one you will do proud, because of the passion, commitment and professionalism that you put into everything you do. We look forward to continuing to work together in your new role.Tweet
