Two local games keep us busy this Saturday evening, kicking off with a Sharks match against the table topping Chiefs, a match that is sure to entertain as the Sharks are finally back in front of their home crowd, and the Chiefs are on the second leg of their South African tour.

The Sharks had a rather successful tour, coming away with 11 points and will want to take the confidence from the win over the Blues into this match, needing to get four points at least to stay in the thick of things. A win before the bye will do the men in black and white the world of good as they fight their way up the log.

The Chiefs have had a great start to the season, considering that they are generally slow starters in this tournament. They sit on top of the New Zealand conference, and with a host of home games still to come, will fancy their chances of a good play-off spot. They already have five points from their win over the Cheetahs last weekend, and will be pushing hard for another full house.

  • Let me get this straight. If the Sharks win and the Brumbies lose, then the only reason why there is an Aus side in the top half of the log is due to the conference system?! What a joke!!

  • The lack of direction from halfback is very concerning.

One expects yo-yo performances from Mcelod, but even Pat is not giving the structure we need to play from.

We need to get more direct – they haven’t missed many tackles, but we need to test them a bit more.

Nothing. But are you not hoping that he can be better if he stays uninjured?

The backs are being strangled from 10-15 because of slow ball, inaccurate passing and poor/ slow decisions at 9.

Its not all Mcleod’s fault by any means, but he is certainly not helping.

I can guarantee you this; we get one or two straight runs at pace we have a chance of scoring: Cruden and SBW are not always accurate in their defensive alignment, although they make their one-on-one tackles.

Still to play this season (log position)
    Highlanders (4)
    Force (12)
    Cheetahs (11)
    Stormers (2)
    Lions (14)
    Bulls (5) probably 4 in 80min time

4 wins out of the remaining 7 if we are lucky.

What attitude by the way…I support the Sharks every game the play unless they play the Lions…
But they terrible…if not for Whitehead the most uninteresting backline too…

  • @siorc (Comment 196) : Agree when u say that certain fans are holding the team back. Just because we are saying such doesn’t mean we don’t love the team, actually we love it enough to say that something is wrong. Clearly not enough pressure is being felt by management and hence the same old same old.

  • Stormers have 10 points on the Sharks. After this afternoon the Bulls will most likely have 11 points.

7 games to go, game over. Winning the conference just isn’t going to happen.

The team will now pull a 2011 and cling to the “mathematical chance” of scraping into 6th place and be happy with a play off loss if they get that far.

  • @Me2 aka Mama Shark (Comment 253) : I would have thought at least a white card, simply because at first it looked pretty dicey. However, after having done a few replays I reckon any citing commission would probably have decided on no punishment, because it didn´t look intentional. The only reason Masaga couldn´t get his arms around Mvovo was because the head clash floored them both before he had a chance to complete the tackle.

In the end probably a good decision by the officials. Not nearly in the same league as Schmidt´s hit on Tsimba.
