The Stormers received some bad news ahead of their final tour match against the Force this weekend, with both Gio Aplon and stand in captain Duane Vermeulen ruled out through injury.
News24.com and the Cape Times report that Aplon hurt his hamstring and Vermeulen his leg, and both of them are on their way back to South Africa. This is the third captain the Stormers have lost following injuries to both Schalk Burger and Jean de Villiers, with the experienced Andries Bekker also currently missing from the setup due to injury.
Aplon’s likely replace will be Gerhard van den Heever, while Nick Koster will in all likelihood take over from Vermeulen, but the big decision will be to select a captain for this team.

This will break the stormers, Pity!! They look like a team that enjoy the game and play with a plan….my sharks back is broken by plum and his ‘stalwarts’ in Bosman and Michelak really disappointed.
Stormers will still pump the Force..
At least 12 points for them from this tour!
Just a pity they have picked up so many injuries in gaining those points..
I was disappointed at the Stormers for not pushing for the bonus point. Think they were 17-3 ahead and still taking the penalties at goal.
For an SA team to win this competition you have to be top of the log, or at least have another SA team on top. With the Crusaders starting to look dangerous, it is going to be tight at the top end of the log by the end of the league stage.
The Stormers may regret missing out on a few bonus points
Danie Poolman joined the squad last week so he will be available for selection.
15 – Joe P
14 – GVDH
13 – Habana
12 – JDJ
11 – Poolman
Still no JP du Plessis?? I wonder why!!
@wpw (Comment 4) : nice to see you here… would have thought after all the shit you had to say about this site on Twitter you might have decided not to post any more…
@wpw (Comment 4) :
Who came on for Aplon when he went off with his injury? Surely that would have been du Plessis?
@robdylan (Comment 5) : Do elaborate…
@wpw (Comment 4) :
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 6) :
Stats say that JP du Plessis was on the field for 5 minutes, did not get his hands on the ball though..
Jp Dup has already got the game on Poolman
@robdylan (Comment 5) :
Aah, holding a grudge there Rob.
@wpw (Comment 10) : I thought you were on my side, is all… turns out you have a different agenda, though.
