Bulls coach Frans Ludeke has named a near full-strength tour squad for his side’s 4-week trip to Australia and New Zealand, with only flank Dewald Potgieter unavailable due to injury.
Both Deon Stegmann (flank) and Willie Wepener (hooker) have been included, despite neither playing any rugby in the last month. Stegmann is in the final stages of recovery from a hamstring injury, while Wepener has been battling the mysterious “Gamsey Hunt syndrome” of late, which is apparently a virus that attacks the facial muscles. He too has made enough progress to join the tour, but is one of three hookers, with Bongi Mbonambi also making the grade.
The Bulls, who leave after this weekend’s bye round, will face the Rebels, Waratahs, Highlanders and Chiefs on tour.
Bulls squad: Zane Kirchner, Akona Ndungane, Bjorn Basson, JJ Engelbrecht, Wynand Olivier, Johann Sadie, Francois Venter, Louis Fouché, Morné Steyn, Jano Vermaak, Francois Hougaard, Pierre Spies (captain), Arno Botha, Deon Stegmann, Jacques Potgieter, CJ Stander, Juandré Kruger, Wilhelm Steenkamp, Flip van der Merwe, Werner Kruger, Dean Greyling, Frik Kirsten, Dawie Steyn, Chiliboy Ralepelle, Bongi Mbonambi, Willie Wepener.Tweet
