According to Australian Media reports, English flyhalf Danny Cipriani has left the Melbourne Rebels with immediate effect.
The ill-disciplined Cipriani, who was once considered the heir the Johnny Wilkinson’s throne up North has battled to settle pretty much anywhere as his penchant for the high-life and alcohol-fuelled bad behaviour off-field tend to overshadow anything he may do between the four white lines.
Earlier this year it was announced that Cipriani would leave the Rebels at the end of the current season to join Sale in the UK; today’s news is that his departure date has apparently been brought forward by a few months and that the decision to leave immediately is apparently a mutual one between him and the Rebels.
The timing is, however, strange given that the Rebels are already down a flyhalf with James O’Connor on the long-term casualty list. More to this that meets, the eye, I’m sure. More details will no doubt be forthcoming soon.
Kurtley Beale is expected to line up in the flyhalf position for the Rebels as they face the Bulls this weekend.

It was only a matter of time.
@lostfish (Comment 1) : correct. Not a great loss either, let’s be honest
He was improving on the field! Obviously at the expense of his off field play.
@robdylan (Comment 2) : True. He hasn’t lived up to the potential he showed a few years ago. If he had been more interested in training and practicing than clubbing and drinking he might’ve been a hell of a lot better.
Off field stuff aside, he would be an all right player if he just learned to tackle…
Really can’t see how players can piss away their careers like this. So ungrateful for their talents.
