Round 12 of Super Rugby is upon us, and we have quite a few tricky games to select from, so think with your head and not your heart. The odds are higher in the closer games for a reason, so don’t get caught out. Let’s take a look at what Marshalls World of Sport have on offer for us this weekend.
As is customary, we start in New Zealand with a game between the bottom two teams on the overall Super Rugby log. Generally these wooden spoon games are close affairs, but I fear we will see a rather one sided game, as the Blues pick up their second win of the season. This is one of the bankers for the weekend.
Blues – 1/4
Lions – 7/2
This is where is gets tricky, as the second game has the Waratahs hosting the Bulls. The Bulls come off a good win last weekend, and the Waratahs lost to the Brumbies and have made a massive amount of changes to their team. I am not the greatest fan of Bulls rugby in the world, but I fancy a win is on the cards here. The odds are pretty even, and with good reason, the Bulls generally struggle in the second week on tour, so be careful here.
Waratahs – 1/1
Bulls – 9/10
Super Saturday rugby kicks off with a humdinger of a New Zealand derby, a match I will not touch this weekend. The teams might not be close on the log, but this will be an extremely tight affair and not worth risking multiples on. If you have a strong gut feel either way, go for a single bet.
Highlanders – 7/10
Hurricanes – 13/10
The Rebels host the Crusaders in what I feel is another banker for the weekend. The Rebels have been poor all season and the Crusaders are picking up momentum. Coach Blackadder has made changes in an attempt to ruffle the feathers of some of the non-performers, so expect a well rounded performance here.
Rebels – 11/2
Crusaders – 15/100
The local games kick off with the Sharks taking on the Force in Durban, the third and last of the real bankers this weekend. The Force might have run the Cheetahs close last weekend, but the Sharks are playing for the playoffs and should win this at a canter.
Sharks – 2/10
Force – 9/2
The last of the Saturday games is a South African derby at Newlands, where the Stormers take on the Cheetahs. Many may feel this game could go either way, and rightly so. The Cheetahs always lift their game against local opposition, but the Stormers are fighting for top spot on the log, and after only one loss so far this season, I simply cannot see them losing at home at all to South African opposition.
Stormers – 1/4
Cheetahs – 7/2
The Reds and Chiefs wrap up our Super Rugby weekend, in another game I would punt with a lot of caution. The Reds are on the up and at home and the Chiefs, even though top of the log, are away and this evens matters up. The Chiefs are marginally favourites in this match, but again, only straight bets with this game, otherwise you risk an entire multiple going down the tubes.
