Carr ruled out for season

The Stormers’ run of loose forward injuries continue as it was confirmed over the weekend that Nizaam Carr has been ruled out for the season, with torn Anterior Cruciate Ligaments (ACL) in his right knee.

Carr went off early in the match against the Cheetahs on Saturday evening, which saw Canadian Jebb Sinclair making his debut from the bench.

This leaves the Stormers with further problems in this area, as they have already lost Schalk Burger, Duane Vermeulen and Nick Koster, and all to knee injuries, until at least after the International break in Super Rugby.

In the meantime, Allister Coetzee will be tearing his hair out as he has to start looking for loose forward cover all over again, and whether he will again look to Europe or whether he gives a young Province player a chance, remains to be seen.

The Stormers face the Waratahs at Newlands on Saturday evening.

  • Man, I feel for the kid. Such a horrible injury and one that always leaves lasting damage.

Isn’t it a travesty that we can’t give the Stormers Tera Mthembu for a few games?

  • @robdylan (Comment 1) : let me correct myself before anyone else does… it’s a pity, not a travesty.

  • @robdylan (Comment 1) :

The Sharks do have an abundance of loose forwards, and with the Vodacom Cup finished for the Sharks, they might as well get the use of one or two of our players..

It would do everyone the world of good, as they will not be stuck with 20 loosies once the injured return, and our players get a bit of exposure and experience at top level..

  • If Luke Watson was as good as everybody says he is, why wasn’t he called up yet?

  • @Mutley (Comment 7) : Because as Ben explained in the game thread, Luke Waston can’t simply be ‘called up’ by the Stormers – it’s just not a simple as that.
