Stormers call for more backup

Following further injuries to the Stormers, and the confirmation that four of their loose forwards will only be back in July, the Stormers have apparently approached Ernst Joubert to return to South Africa and add experience to the Cape Town team’s loose trio.

News24.com reports that the former Lions eighthman, who currently plays for Saracens, has been approached and is on his way to Cape Town, and could even make his way onto the training field as early as today.

The Stormers already have a European-based player in their midst, with Jebb Sinclair getting the call last week and playing three quarters of the game against the Cheetahs last weekend, following the injury to Nizaam Carr. Sinclair was expected to start at the back of the scrum, with Vodacom Cup stars Don Armand and Nick Fenton-Wells fighting it out for the bench spot, but with Joubert in the mix, we will have to wait for the team announcement.

More on this as it becomes available.

  • According to reports Jebb Sinclair will defnitely start at 8 for the Stormers against the Waratahs.

Fenton-Wells has already been released and will join the VC squad.

Don Armand will be on the Stormers bench.

This is what was confirmed this morning…not sure if Ernst will be involved now that he seems to be on route to CT.

    Thanks Wes..

Funny how Fenton-Wells has been jumped in the order of loosies, with Armand on the bench (potentially)

I am not sure here, but has Fenton-Wells not been around a bit longer? Or is Armand just better?

  • @Salmonoid (Comment 6) :

Yes, I am aware of that, but he is based in Europe..

As is Joubert, thus the comment about Europeans in the Stormers team..

  • @Richard Ferguson (Comment 3) :

Fenton-Wells is a open side flanker.

Armand plays 8th man or blindside flank and is the bulkier of the two.

But what’s weird is that FW has been playing 8 for the WP Vodacom Cup side.
