  • What is the official maximum size of a test squad – 30? Or does that just count for traveling games

I am surprised not to see Kolisi amongst the loose forwards though

  • Interesting to see Akona in and not Odwa. I reckon that that’s down to lack of gametime this year for Odwa due to his injuries and Akona has really come back into form this year. He looks very quick again!

Interesting to see that Sadie hasn’t been included. Very useful looking squad!

@Ice (Comment 2) : Any idea about why foreign players haven’t been included. BJ Botha and Ruan Pienaar have both been looking good in the Heineken Cup and their competition is over now isn’t it?

  • Forwards=Great! Backs- what the hell is Olivier, JJ and A.Ndungane doing there? Lekka Biased from probably Ricardo. Whitehead/Jordaan combo should’ve have made it, cos since they have been paired together the stats will tell us all they have been the best centre pairing in South Africa, if not the whole comp the last 3 weeks.

If i see Olivier or JJ pull on a Bok jersey i will be properly ticked off. Hopefully Olivier and JJ don’t make the final group and that Lambie, JPP and Habana can be backup centre’s. Very Chuffed Piet Van Zyl got the call, too, great young scrummie!

Whitehead has seen half of a good season, and Jordaan only three games.. Hardly evidence to put them into Bok contention. Whitehead of the two deserves it more, especially ahead of Engelbrecht and Sadie (Oh wait, wunderkid never made it)

But neither of them will feature once the squad is whittled down anyway..

Understand your point, but if i asked you now if you were the coach would you rather have a Olivier/JJ centre combo or a Whitehead/Jordaan combo? @Ben (Comment 20) : I said in the last 3 weeks they have been the best centre pairing in South Africa, and not far off for the whole comp…”THE LAST 3 WEEKS” Olivier and JJ have been average throughout, especially Olivier.

Can’t believe people still don’t believe in what Jordaan can offer The Boks…def. more than JJ can.

I would have neither of those combinations as thye Bok centre pairing, because we have JdV, JdJ and Frans Steyn, all three offer so much and more in the Boks midfield.

I agree that JJ doesn’t deserve to be there any more than Tim and Jordaan, but he has no chance of playing anyway..

Jordaan is a better squad option than JJ and Sadie. Jordaan would be awesome off the bench. Jordaan will be Bok number 13 before end of 2013, as i said over a month ago. ;-) Go Timmy en Paul!!

I’m not denying the bloke has talent, heaps of it in fact..

But you cannot expect him to just waltz into the first Bok squad announced since he started playing Super Rugby..

I hope, no I wish you are right about Jordaan, because that will mean he will be in amazing form for the Sharks in the 13 jersey, culminating in a Bok call up before the end of next year..

So don’t get me wrong, what I am saying is that he needs a little more time, and he will great. Pushing him in now might just break him..

  • @JJR (Comment 34) : End of 2013. @Richard Ferguson (Comment 37) : Not saying he must start or something, i’m just saying he is better than JJ, so don’t know why the hell a guy who has a position crisis and can just run straight and hard gets a call up. Jordaan wasn’t called up to initial planning camp, so that makes it a bit more understandable, but by next year Jordaan must be in contention for a spot in the Bok 22 for next years Rugby Championship, IMO. JDV can’t go to the next world cup, so he should fall out after this year, So centre’s to take us forward, IMO should be Steyn, JDJ, Whitehead and Jordaan.

  • @Ben (Comment 35) : End of 2013 ;-) Was patient…WTH did it take so long to get Jordaan in there…i find it no coincidence that our backline started firing when Jordaan came into the side. Plum did the same with Pat(took a bit long), pat came in and all of the sudden we hit a winning streak, same is happening with Jordaan in combination with Beast.

Bit off topic here, I can see Bosman skipping Jordaan all day and the ball going to Pat coming into the line…Bosman really needs to learn when to not skip pass, else Jordaan won’t get much ball this weekend. 2nd half i would move Bosman to 10, Lambie 12 and Ludik/Ndungane comes into the 15 position.

    Not yet ;-)

Elstadt is playing this weekend, and I agree that he is more flexible in term of being a lock backup and loosie backup.

The problem I have with that, is that he is not spectacular in any of the two positions, so rather go with full on expertise in a position, than mediocrity in two positions.

  • @Puma (Comment 48) : It could if we don’t see Deysel next week; i think we need Deysel in there somewhere…his fetching abilities for a big 7 gives Heyneke some other options. Especially when Tri-Nations (with practice match against Argentina ;) ) comes around…the way the Boks play well, we often slow down opposition ball and kick them back into there own 22 once we turn it over(although i would run it  ), imagine Deysel-7 Brussouw-6 and Bissie-2…NZ and Aus are not gonna get great ball from the breakdown…that’s for sure.
