Looking further than this weekend

Round 14 of Super Rugby is upon us, and we have quite a few tricky games to select from, so think with your head and not your heart. The odds are higher in the closer games for a reason, so don’t get caught out. Let’s take a look at what Marshalls World of Sport have on offer for us this weekend.

First up this morning is the Chiefs and Bulls clash, which I would not touch with a barge pole! It is a top of the table clash, and a match that could really go either way. My heart hopes for a Chiefs victory, but you can never rule out a Bulls victory.

Chiefs – 9/20
Bulls – 2/1

Saturday sees six matches taking place, and starts in New Zealand, where the Hurricanes host the Rebels. The Hurricanes should be too strong for the Australian side, but I said the same thing about the Crusaders two weekends ago. I feel that the Rebels have played their good game for the season, and will succumb to the Canes.

Hurricanes – 3/10
Rebels – 3/1

A New Zealand derby takes us to Auckland where the Blues host the Highlanders, another game that, if you sit and think about it long enough, can go either way, but should be quite a simple victory for a Highlanders team looking to keep up with the leading pack.

Blues – 15/10
Highlanders – 6/10

Over to Australia we go, where we have a derby match that will determine the outcome of the Australian conference, with the leading Brumbies hosting the resurgent Reds. The toughest game of the weekend to call, in my mind, so rather stay away here.

Brumbies – 1/1
Reds – 1/1

The Force host the Lions in their final tour match before heading back to South Africa, and the Force will finally be able to win a game again. The Lions are heading for their eleventh successive defeat here I am afraid, so don’t be shy to include this banker in your multiples.

Force – 4/10
Lions – 5/2

Back home we have two games, starting with the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein taking on the travelling Waratahs. The Cheetahs have come close in recent weekends, but still lose the tight games. This will be another, but I have a feeling they will pull through.

Cheetahs – 6/10
Waratahs – 15/10

The final game of the weekend is in Durban, where the Sharks host the Stormers. Yet another tight game to call, and watch out to not back with your heart. I have a feeling that the Sharks will pull through a win, but it could go either way at the end of the day.

Sharks – 8/10
Stormers – 11/10

If you are looking further than just this weekend’s games, have a look at the following longer term odds:

SA Conference winner:
Stormers – 6/10
Bulls – 15/10
Sharks 10/1

Australian Conference winner:
Brumbies – 1/3
Reds – 5/2
Waratahs – 66/1

New Zealand Conference winner:
Chiefs – 7/10
Crusaders – 12/10
Highlanders – 17/1
Hurricanes – 33/1

Overall Super Rugby Winner:
Stormers – 2.75/1
Crusaders – 2.85/1
Chiefs – 4/1
Bulls – 6/1
Brumbies – 8/1
Reds – 12/1
Sharks – 16/1
Highlanders – 33/1
Hurricanes – 80/1
Waratahs – 125/1

  • Who would have thought so many of us would be backing the Sharks to pull through on this game. Not a few weeks ago. After our victory against the Highlanders we were all still a bit peeved by the many mistakes the Sharks were making although we al agreed that they did execute the game plan pretty well and after the Force game we were very tentative, because who know why big wins like that happen. But now, we are really saying that if you had to bet on this game it should be on the sharks.

    I hope we win.

It is great to see how much the Sharks has improved and giving us some of our hope and belief back!!!

    GO SHARKS!!!

I have a few running, spreading the risk, but my most confident bet is:

    Hurricanes
    Reds
    Force
    Cheetahs

    That got me 5/1

    Not yet..

I don’t think anything like that will happen though, no bookie will want to take that risk.
