Pieter Louw has been called up to the Stormers setup after the franchise has been ravaged by injuries to their loose forward stock. Louw, who stopped playing after his contract was not renewed, has 81 caps in total for Western Province and the Stormers.
According to Adnaan Mohamed from the Son, Pieter Louw, who can play in any of the three loose forward positions, has started training with the Cape team again, and the priority now is to get him fit in the quickest possible timeframe.
Currently missing from the Stormers loose forward stock is Schalk Burger, Duane Vermeulen, Nick Koster and Nizaam Carr, who have all been ruled out with varying knee injuries.
Burger and Koster are expected to be back in action in July while Vermeulen’s injury will take a bit longer to heal. Carr is out for the rest of the season.

why didn’t they get him in before jebb
Eish, poor Pieter Louw having this news break via the Son.
@MJ (Comment 1) :
I think the main issue was he had retired from the game after he was not offered a new contract, and thus was not conditioned in way shape or form for the rigours of Superugby. It was only when Stormers had their injury crisis that they called him in to get him back up to fitness for the end of Superugby/CC.
And again we hear about the excellent loose forward cover the Stormers currently have!
Inevitable.
Paging Molly to come read the good news!
@Ben (Comment 4) :
I have had so many good laughs thanks to hendrik.
Awesome Stormers loosie depth.
Goosen to start the June tests.
Sadie to dominate at 13.
Coenie to be the best LH in SR.
Its been a fun year!
@Big Fish (Comment 6) : you forgot the best one…
Koster to be Bok captain
@Big Fish (Comment 6) : It has yes! And Koster isn’t Bok captain yet! Oh and JP du Plessis isn’t vice captain!
@Big Fish (Comment 6) :
He IS a good entertainer.
@robdylan (Comment 7) : Beat me to it! ShIt!
I respect him for putting his proverbial on the block, but not for no reason do they say that wisdom comes with age.
Forgot the Koster one; that ranks right up there!
@vanmartin (Comment 5) :
Allister Coetzee… bringing sexy back!
@molly (Comment 12) : Love your work!
The Nick Koster ‘future Bok captain’ was started by Claytie if my memory is correct.
The rest is all hendrik.
@Big Fish (Comment 6) :
Yes I did say the Stormers had good loose-forward depth. Injuries have depleted that… so what?
No I didn’t say Goosen would start June tests. That is a lie. I said he’d be in the Bok squad.
Yes I did say Sadie would play well at 13. At this stage he’s been somewhere between average and poor. Looking for improvement.
No, I did not say Coenie was the best LH prop in Super Rugby. I said he had a helluva workrate. Another lie.
If you’re going to ‘have a laugh’ out of the blue, in a thread I’m not even involved in, then get your facts straight. To me you just appear pathetic.
@Big Fish (Comment 11) :
Another lie. Where did I say Koster would be Springbok captain? I said this was a perfect opportunity to stake a claim for Bok honours, predicting it would happen. He started the season well but then got struck down by injuries. So….
Also, on JP du Plessis, I said the Sharks should look at him because they were in need of centres. Never said he was going to play for the Boks. Pathetic again.
@hendrikp (Comment 16) : What’s with all the personal attacks? Did we hit a nerve?
@hendrikp (Comment 16) :
@hendrikp (Comment 15) :
Just take it easy dude..
Its all tongue in cheek, the more you react, the more they will pull you out..
En nou hendriena?? Wat gaan aan??
You cut me deep hennie – after I said that I admired you and everything!
@Big Fish (Comment 20) : He doesn’t recognize a compliment when it smack him straight on the nose!
@Ben (Comment 21) :
Frankly, I’m hurt.
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 18) : You’re spot on, Rich…. we wouldn’t tease the dude if we didn’t like him.
It’s kind of a badge of honour
@Ben (Comment 17) : more like at the core of the central nervous system.
I said he had a helluva workrate. Another lie
So are you defending your statement or saying it was a lie?
@hendrikp (Comment 15) : We thought we’d try and involve you, don’t let it ever be said we are elitist and only include Sharks fans.
@KSA Shark © (Comment 25) :
Seems like we were slicing inconsequentials there – none of the predictions (in whichever particular form they may have been couched) came to pass.
@robdylan (Comment 23) :
This is true. Like pinching girls at the kindergarten playground.
@Big Fish (Comment 27) : In fairness to young Hendrik, I’ve been a big Koster naysayer (still don’t know how in hell he was awarded the MOTM in the first game against the Sharks when I thought he was largely anonymous), but in the few games he has played (exluding aforementioned one) he has actually impressed me. In particular, I thought he has stepped up his physicality impressively.
As for Goosen, there can be no doubt that he is super-talented. My concerns are over his ability to operate in the heavy traffic that international flyhalves are subjected to; both from a robustness and decision-making point of view.
@Culling Song (Comment 28) : I am starting to think Goosen would make an incredible full back
@Bokhoring (Comment 29) : I’m starting to think Goosen would make a great CPR dummy
@robdylan (Comment 30) : You must admit the Cheetahs was a different team with him on the field. I think the guy is just to fragile to play at 10
@Bokhoring (Comment 31) : I’m just being facetious
Everyone says he’s better than Lambie…. well, so far Lambie has managed to play 3 seasons of Super Rugby without getting catastrophically injured each time he touches the ball.
@robdylan (Comment 30) :
Comment of the day!
@robdylan (Comment 32) : My personal opinion is that this guy is incredibly talented, and I would like to see both him and Lambie (whom I also rate very highly) in the same Bok 15 in the not to far away future
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 33) : thanks for the vote of confidence, but it’s still early
: )
@Bokhoring (Comment 34) : I want him to play through a season of Super Rugby before we pick him for the Boks… in fact, I want that to be a non-negotiable criterion for ANY player who hopes to don the green and gold. Too many guys look great in their first season and get found out very quickly in their second.
@Big Fish (Comment 20) :
I don’t mind the odd joke, but when you say that you’re laughing at me… then make up a bunch of bull about things I supposedly said which are half-truths at best, then it becomes a personal attack and it’s only fair that I defend myself.
I also don’t hide behind an alias so when you make up these stories to discredit me, I do take it personally
@robdylan (Comment 36) :
Is this Marcell Coetzee’s first Super Rugby season?
@Richard Ferguson (Comment 38) : haha… good one.
No, it is not
@hendrikp (Comment 37) : your name is “hendrikp”? How does one even pronounce that
I guess someone’s finger slipped on the keyboard at the registry office!!
(THIS IS A JOKE, BTW!)
@robdylan (Comment 32) : Goosen may be more naturally gifted than Lambie, BUT Lambie has the kind of mental toughness and composure under pressure that I’m not convinced we’ve seen from Goosen. And as I’ve said before, I’d take the mentally tough but limited (e.g. Gary Kirsten) over the extravagantly gifted but flaky (Hershelle Gibbs) any day.
Also, if you’ll pardon the language, Lambie’s built like a brick sh*thouse and can withstand being knocked about.
@hendrikp (Comment 37) :
My apologies; I did not mean it as a personal attack.
I’ve learnt to enjoy your insights – I just think that you need to remember that life is full of unexpected occurrences, changes of fortune and people who surprise you – nobody’s life, not just a rugby player’s, is predictable.
Just remember – if you make a big call – you’re putting yourself up for a possible big fall.
@Big Fish (Comment 42) :
All good, and fair call.
@Big Fish (Comment 42) : “…nobody’s life, not just a rugby player’s, is predictable.”
That’s not true; my life is very predictable… it’s always awesome!!!
@Culling Song (Comment 44) : BTW what is that creature on your avatar?
@Bokhoring (Comment 45) : Artwork courtesy of Dave Mckean, graphic artist/writer extraordinaire. It’s a face made up of plant growth, something similar to Swamp Thing.
@Culling Song (Comment 46) : It is excellent
@Bokhoring (Comment 47) : If you like that kind of thing, I recommend you look up some of Dave Mckean’s artwork. He’s very innovative, mixing up photos, painting, sculptures etc. The stuff he did for Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series blows my mind.
@robdylan (Comment 36) : But Rob, I think it comes to the coach and his ability to spot talent, there are plenty cases of young players standing up at International level, even only after a CC, or one game in a CC in Frans’s case. Habana is another who also came from nowhere. I’m sure there are plenty more. How much SR had Lambie played before he was picked?
Jake surprised us a few times with his talent spotting, and I think Heyneke will do the same.
@molly (Comment 49) : I did the research, 7 games from 13 in his first SR season, and then he was called up to the Boks. He’s stepped up pretty well.
More players that didn’t have a SR season:
Jean Div
Schalk Burger
I’m sure there are more, help me out. I wouldn’t set that as a rule, sometimes players are good enough for the step up and the coaches are good enough to spot that.
