Guess what fans… John Smit’s testimonial match this Friday night is on at exactly the same time as the IRB Junior World Championship final between South Africa and New Zealand. Now which genius allowed that one to happen?
Rugby fans – and I guess Sharks fans in particular – will be hard-pressed to pick which one of these to watch and I’m guessing that with the result of the JWC game of far more immediate importance, many a PVR will be called into service to record the Barney’s Army game, which will be broadcast live on SuperSport 5 whilst the Junior Boks take centre stage on the flagship SuperSport 1 channel.
Perhaps this is just a symptom of too much rugby in the calendar, but one would have thought that somebody within the corridors of power, either at SARU or at SuperSport (who after all, own a stake in the Sharks) might have pointed this one out to Mr Smit and the Sharks ahead of time. After all, it’s not like the JWC hasn’t been on the calendar for quite some time…
Again, seems unfortunately like a case of the left hand and the right not even being in the same room, never mind attached to a single body.

Sheeshlikit! That’s now planning!…NOT…
SARU would have trouble organising a piss up in a brewery.
WHO CARES ABOUT JOHN’S TESTIMONIAL? this is an IRB junior world champ FINAL…john can go fly a kite
As a sharks supporter I think I`ll be watching the John Smit match.
Guaranteed to see a shark lift the cup for a change!
It`s been a while . . .
Sharks/Barney’s Army on Record 4 me…i have to watch the Baby Boks lift that cup!!!
@JJR (Comment 5) : Same here!
@Megatron (Comment 3) : let’s be fair, the Barney’s Army match will probably be watched primarily by Sharks fans – and you aren’t one.
@robdylan (Comment 7) : And thank heavens for that.
On evidence drawn from watching Barney play for the Barbarians a few weeks ago we’re probably not going to be seeing much of him, except at lineout time. Probably worth recording for a later scan-through, though.
