More bad than good news for Stormers

There is a little good and a little bad news for Stormers fans during the Super Rugby break, with news on injuries delivering relief and disappointment at the same time.

SuperXV.com reports that Andries Bekker should be fit to face the Lions in their first game after the break, which is next Saturday. Bekker missed the Springbok test series against England due to an injured back.

News on their injured loose forwards is not as good as expected, with Schalk Burger’s return to fitness after the break delayed until after the Lions game. Both the captain and Nick Koster have already been ruled out of the match against the Lions at Newlands in a week’s time.

Duane Vermeulen is another that will not see action against the Johannesburg team, with an expected return scheduled for the play-offs only. With Rynardt Elstadt also missing the Lions match due to his one week ban, there will be another shuffle amongst the back three for the South African conference leaders.

Don Armand and Tyrone Holmes have been singled out for possible spots in the team, with Nick Fenton-Wells moving to Europe to further his career no longer in the picture. Jebb Sinclair should continue at the back of the scrum with Siya Kolisi, who is currently with the Springbok squad, the other definite at the side of the scrum.

The lack of experienced flankers could see Deon Fourie drafted into the starting team at the side of the scrum, as was done earlier in the season.
