No wait! It’s not Carlos, it’s Ackies!

Carlos Spencer must surely win the prize for the shortest Super Rugby coaching tenure in history.

According to a report (and exclusive interview) on Rugby365 last night, former Sharks lock Johan Ackermann will take over as head coach for the Lions, after the suspension of John Mitchell. This, of course, contradicts the the report (and exclusive interview) on Keo yesterday afternoon which confirmed the other assistant, Carlos Spencer, as head coach.

You can just picture it, can’t you – both men pitching up for training this morning having done some hasty planning, believing they’re the head coach. I wonder if they’ll flip a coin? Or better yet, let the players coach themselves, which will probably do about as much good at the moment.

Not to worry, I’m sure by the time the Lions get to Cape Town this weekend they’ll have figured out who the real coach is. I’m told there will be a gruelling Apprentice-style challenge to help the players pick their new coach. The two candidates will be strapped to chairs in the middle of the field and be forced to watch the players dropping passes. Whichever man can be the most complimentary to the players in question gets the job…

  • Aah yes, it’s wonderful this revenge thing.

snoiL beat the Sharks, snoiL supporters (not unlike the tjieta supporters a few years back) rub our noses in it, and go on and on about how they always knew their team had the ability to play like this blah blah blah.

Now we get to laugh at jokes of coaching apprenticeship etc. Brilliant!

  • And in another bolter Paul Adams has been appointed coach of the Cape Cobras cricket team. He is going to need more hair on his teeth than Ackerman.

  • @Zibbie (Comment 6) : Strange you mention that, when we bought all those tjieta players we couldn’t buy a win in Bloem.

Now we got all these snoiL players and guess what….we can’t buy a win in Jo’burg.

  • @Zibbie (Comment 15) : No, Conrad remained for quiete a while despite delivering next to nothing. Cobras shafted Richard Pybus after 2 years of his 3 year contract – he won 3 titles and has landed the Bangladesh coaching job since.
