Big-name Bulls signing Johann Sadie has suffered a further blow to his career aspirations, with the news (according to Brenden Nel and SuperSport) that a serious ankle injury will keep him out of action for at least 6 weeks.
Sadie, who was signed from Western Province amid much fanfare late last year (and strange whispers that he had a guaranteed first team place written into his contract) has struggled outside of the Bulls “old firm” of Morne Steyn and Wynand Olivier. The really sad thing is that he was forced to injure himself on the training ground – because he never gets close enough to a match situation for any chance of it happening there!
JJ Engelbrecht, signed from Province at the same time as Sadie, but in most ways considered to be the poor relation of his more illustrious team-mate, has seen his shares rise at Sadie’s expense. Some reasonable play at outside centre for the Bulls saw him crack the wider Bok squad under Heyneke Meyer this year; Sadie’s absence for the remainder of Super Rugby will only allow Engelbrecht to further consolidate his position in the Bulls number 13 jersey.Tweet
