In news that will come as a blow to any Sharks (and Bulls) fans hoping for a second Crusaders loss this weekend, Todd Blackadder has named a full-strength side for Friday’s crunch derby against the Chiefs in Hamilton.

Izzy Dagg is back in the number 15 jersey, after sitting out last week, but it’s the return of Daniel Carter to flyhalf, at the expense of Tom Taylor, that should markedly change the complexion of the side. While pretty good even without Carter, the former champions tend to be a different prospect altogether with the All Black play maker calling the shots and Carter’s personal duel with Aaron Cruden sure to be one to watch.

In the pack, Kieran Read finally returns as well, meaning captain Richie McCaw moves back to the open-side flank position where he’s proved most effective over the bulk of his career.

15 Israel Dagg, 14 Adam Whitelock, 13 Robbie Fruean, 12 Ryan Crotty, 11 Zac Guildford, 10 Dan Carter, 9 Andy Ellis, 8 Kieran Read, 7 Richie McCaw (capt), 6 George Whitelock, 5 Sam Whitelock, 4 Luke Romano, 3 Owen Franks, 2 Corey Flynn, 1 Ben Franks.
Reserves: 16 Quentin MacDonald, 17 Wyatt Crockett, 18 Tom Donnelly, 19 Matt Todd, 20 Willi Heinz, 21 Tom Taylor, 22 Sean Maitland.
