The Sharks under 21 side ran out convincing 61-17 winners over an outclassed Pumas outfit on Saturday.

Sean Everitt’s combination got some much-needed match practice ahead of this weekend’s season opener against Free State and played well to score 9 tries total, but won’t be getting ahead of themselves just yet, since the Pumas really are a second-tier outfit. In fact, as one pundit put it, the big news here is actually the fact that the Pumas managed to score 17 points against the Sharks!

Six tries were put on the board in a dominant first half, with the Sharks taking a 42-7 lead into the break, but structure seems to have been lost in the second period as Everitt mixed and matched his team. The Pumas were far more competitive in that period, with the scoreline reading just 19-10 in favour of the Sharks.

Tries were scored by Francois Kleinhans (2), Piet Lindeque (2), Wandi Mjekevu, Brendon Groenewald, Sizo Maseko and Braam Steyn. We know that Fred Zeilinga nailed at least six conversions, but it’s unclear whether he was responsible for the two further conversions in the second half, or if somebody else had taken over the kicking duties by that stage.

  • @Richard Ferguson (Comment 1) : the match this weekend is at home… I guess it’s at Kings Park? Maybe one of the outer fields?

  • @Richard Ferguson (Comment 1) : according to the SA Rugby web site it’s at Mr Price Kings Park… not sure how reliable that is, though… cos the kick-off time is listed as 00:00 :)
