Get well soon, Johan

We reported a few weeks back that unfortunate Sharks under 19 loose forward Johan Meyer had suffered a serious knee injury, that would rule him out for the entire under 19 season.

We’re pleased to report that Johan underwent a successful ACL-reconstruction operation in Durban this morning and is already in recovery. He faces a long and difficult rehabilitation period, but getting through the operation is the first and most important step towards a successful come back.

I’m sure we all wish Johan all the best for the difficult months ahead and look forward to seeing him making a huge impact for the Sharks in years to come.

  • That’s a harsh blow. Let’s hope the knee comes back stronger than before.

  • Good question. He looked like a useful player. Never found out why he suddenly retired a week before Super Rugby kicked off in 2010 or was that last year?

  • @ChrisS (Comment 3) : it was 2010. He retired because he was worried about letting the team down if his knee didn’t hold up. He came back and got injured in the Currie Cup.

  • @lostfish (Comment 4) : ja – in hindsight he was right.

I dunno what happened there. I thought he was a nice guy. He’s currently working in Joburg and seems to have retired from rugby.

  • @Megatron (Comment 9) : O yeah, if I recall, that’s when you were at your Shark bashing best – glad you’ve since repented of your “kicking us while we’re down” ways. ;-)
