Kings Park fire under control: latest

According to reports and pictures all over the news sites and Twitter this morning, the Durban emergency services were called to attend a fire at Mr Price Kings Park stadium this morning.

Our man on the scene, Scott Bevan, told us that: “Fire fighters were called to the scene early on Thursday morning after emergency workers were called out to the scene just after 06:30. It is thought that the fire started in one of the stands but the cause of the blaze is still uncertain.”

One bystander posted a very serious-looking picture of the blaze, with flames rising high above the roof of the stadium. Fears that the famous and beloved stadium might be doomed started to rise, but as it turns out, all is now under control.

Eye-Witness News Sport journalist Jean Smyth apparently managed to get hold of Sharks CEO Brian van Zyl around half an hour ago. According to Smyth’s tweet, the “small fire” has been extinguished and only a few suites were damaged. Mercifully, nobody was injured by the blaze.

Good news all round! A big thanks to the brave guys and gals at Durban Fire!

  • @Zibbie (Comment 11) : Nope, it was actually a very bored Marius Joubert. The closest he gets to a match these days is when he buys a box from the cafe around the corner.

  • They can burn down our home, they can call the fire brigade to put out our flame…
BUT THEY CAN’T STOP THE SHARKS FROM WINNING SR2012!!!
(Shouting turned on double bass, while standing at attention, shaking like a rattle snake, tears running down the cheeks, painted black and white)
