Former Affies man Heimar Williams has been named to lead the Sharks under 21 side in their first competitive game of the season. Sean Everitt’s side, which features a fair few returnees from last year’s campaign, take on Free State at Kings Park tomorrow evening.

A number of off-season signings will make their first appearances for the Sharks in this game, with former Lions three-quarter Wandi Mjekevu the best well-known. Winger Size Maseko (WP), lock Brendon Groenwald (Free State) and utility forward Stefan Willemse (Blue Bulls) are all playing their first junior game for the Sharks, while others like Williams, right wing Piet Lindeque, flyhalf Fred Zeilinga, flanks Franna Kleinhans and Chris Cloete and both props (Nick Schonert and Danie Mienie) played for the side in 2011.

Everitt has also included all of his available Baby Boks (Piet-Steph du Toit and Paul Jordaan aside), with Franco Marais, Braam Steyn, Khaya Majola, Allan Dell and Maks van Dyk all playing a part in South Africa’s recent IRB Junior World Championship triumph.

The game kicks off at 6pm and we’d like to urge as many Sharks fans as possible to get down to Kings Park to catch the game.

Sharks under 21:
15 Jaco van Tonder, 14 Piet Lindeque, 13 Wandile Mjekevu, 12 Heimar Williams (capt), 11 Sizo Maseko, 10 Fred Zeilinga, 9 Hanco Venter, 8 Braam Steyn, 7 Francois Kleinhans, 6 Chris Cloete, 5 Stephan Lewies, 4 Brendon Groenewald, 3 Nick Schonert, 2 Franco Marais, 1 Danie Mienie
16 Allan Dell, 17 Maks van Dyk, 18 Stefan Willemse, 19 Khaya Majola, 20 Gavin Hauptfleisch, 21 Jared Meyer, 22 Keelin Bastew

  • A very good looking side on paper! Great to see Glenwood Old Boy Brendon Groenewald back in his home province. Hopefully others like him who have gone to the Bulls will return in a couple of years. Good luck guys!

  • @Robdylan, not sure mate. He was about 186cm and 100kg a year ago, so may have bulked up since.
