We simply cannot wait any longer for the bloody Reds to announce their team, so let’s get on with it.

Crusaders v Vodacom Bulls 21 July at 09:35

The first qualifier sees the 4th-placed Crusaders take on the 5th-placed Bulls in Christchurch. While the Bulls have been reasonable of late, it’s fair to say they’ve not set the world on fire in the latter half of the competition, with only home wins against the Lions and the Cheetahs to show for their efforts in-amongst a fair few losses. While they’re generally a good side in play-off games, they’ve yet to win in Christchurch (like all the other SA teams) and I quite honestly don’t see them having the personnel to do so this time around either. Crusaders to take this by around 10 points, but maybe a lot more.

Crusaders: 15. Israel Dagg, 14. Adam Whitelock, 13. Robert Fruean, 12. Ryan Crotty, 11. Zac Guildford, 10. Dan Carter, 9. Andy Ellis, 8. Richie McCaw (Captain), 7. Matt Todd, 6. George Whitelock, 5. Sam Whitelock, 4. Luke Romano, 3. Owen Franks, 2. Corey Flynn, 1. Wyatt Crockett
Replacements: 16. Quentin MacDonald, 17. Ben Franks, 18. Tom Donnelly, 19. Luke Whitelock, 20. Willi Heinz, 21. Tom Taylor, 22. Sean Maitland

Bulls: 15. Zane Kirchner, 14. Akona Ndungane, 13. JJ Engelbrecht, 12. Wynand Olivier, 11. Bjorn Basson, 10. Morné Steyn, 9. Francois Hougaard, 8. Pierre Spies (Captain), 7. Jacques Potgieter, 6. Dewald Potgieter, 5. Juandre Kruger, 4. Flip van der Merwe, 3. Werner Kruger, 2. Chiliboy Ralepelle, 1. Dean Greyling
Replacements: 16. Willie Wepener, 17. Frik Kirsten, 18. Wilhelm Steenkamp, 19. Deon Stegmann, 20. Jano Vermaak, 21. Louis Fouche, 22. Francois Venter

Reds v Sharks 21 July at 11:40

In the second game, the 3rd-placed Reds (58 log points) take on the 6th-placed Sharks (59 log points – and they say this conference system makes sense) in Brisbane. It’s a hugely tough one to call and I think that with Quade Cooper out, most pundits would give this one to the Sharks if it were to be played on neutral territory. The travel factor is a huge counter to that, though, meaning the Reds must surely start as favourites. Fresh in both teams’ minds, though, will be the game in Durban at the start of the season. The Reds will remember how they dominated the first half, with the Sharks sure to take heart from a stunning second-half fightback that saw them take the spoils, albeit against a Reds side that, by that stage, was severely injury-depleted. I’m going with te heart here and backing the Sharks to snatch a nail-biter. Sharks by 2, but don’t go to the bank with that one!

Sharks: 15. Louis Ludik, 14. JP Pietersen, 13. Paul Jordaan, 12. Tim Whitehead, 11. Lwazi Mvovo, 10. Frederic Michalak, 9. Charl McLeod, 8. Ryan Kankowski, 7. Marcell Coetzee, 6. Keegan Daniel (Captain), 5. Anton Bresler, 4. Willem Alberts, 3. Jannie du Plessis, 2. Bismarck du Plessis, 1. Tendai Mtawarira, 0. Steven Sykes
Replacements: 16. Craig Burden, 17. Wiehahn Herbst, 19. Jacques Botes, 20. Cobus Reinach, 21. Meyer Bosman, 22. Odwa Ndungane

Reds: TBA
