Rob du Preez led the Sharks under 19s to a convincing 46-3 victory over the SWD Eagles in George on Friday night, scoring 7 tries in the process.

With the tournament favourite Blue Bulls unexpectedly losing to Western Province on Saturday (despite their star-studded side and big chequebook), the young Sharks are now hovering just a point behind them on the table, with a game in hand to boot.

Tries were evenly spread amongst the team, with captain Rob du Preez, centre Tyler Fisher and flank Andrew van Tonder dotting down in the first half. Centre Gareth Meikle, replacement scrumhalf Bokkie Carstens, number 8 Jean Pretorius and replacement prop John-Hubert Meyer all dotted down in the second half.

Scrumhalf Stefan Ungerer weighed in with two conversions and a penalty, with replacement flyhalf Brendan Cope adding two further conversions.

The Sharks under 19s play the Lions at Kings Park this weekend.
