SA Schools named for France

A number of KwaZulu Natal players – as well as one from elsewhere who’s hoping to make a big impact in the black and white next season – have been included in a strong SA schools 23 to take on France in Wellington this evening.

Bulls prop Pierre Schoeman will captain the side, which is participating in a triangular series against tonight’s opponents, England and Wales over the course of the next week. Maritzburg College fullback Jesse Kriel, unfortunately headed for the Bulls next year, will start in his favoured position, with Kearsney centre Sandile Kubeka – who rumour would have it is going to stay in Durban next year – named at 13.

The ubiquitous du Preez twins are there, of course, with Jean-Luc starting at blindside flank and twin brother Daniel named on the bench. The whole family will, I’m sure, be down in the Cape for this one, with elder brother Rob set to captain the Sharks under 19 side against Western Province a day later.

Keep an eye out for tall lock Gideon “Koegies” Keogelenberg, who our sources tell us will be joining the Sharks Academy, from Boland, next year. He starts in the number 4 jersey.

15 Jesse Kriel – KwaZulu-Natal
14 Sergeal Petersen -Eastern Province
13 Sandile Kubeka -KwaZulu-Natal
12 Rohan Janse van Rensburg -Blue Bulls
11 Duhan van der Merwe -SWD

19 Abongile Nonkontwana – Blue Bulls
20 Daniël du Preez -KwaZulu-Natal

  • @robdylan (Comment 6) : @Megatron (Comment 4) : yep,think it’s Mr Duncan’s influence

Rob Rory Duncan played for EP and retired at the end of last year I think,he’s now the 1st XV coach at Grey PE,so think he influences some of the boys,2 Queen’s boys also signed with Kings

  • @robdylan (Comment 16) : ja, i was explaining to a friend the other day who asked me “why so many of my friends support the sharks” and i told her if you look in the past a LOT of boys from our schools have gone to the sharks to start/forge professional careers when EP/Border was beset with maladministration problems. the likes of rory d, kaunda ntunja, solly t, brent, luke, kanko, keegan, kockerot…not forgetting that the franchise was once known as the “coastal sharks” and played games in EL too.

at least now we seem to be keeping some of them…

  • @Megatron (Comment 21) : I keep getting into these unintentional scraps with the guy… like yesterday when he said something about how the Boks should pick Kolisi ahead of Coetzee because of his greater physicality… I mean, WTF???

  • @Megatron (Comment 23) : my argument here tends to get lost in the noise… I’m all for bigging up Siya because he’s a great young player with a huge future. But to feel you have to denigrate Marcell in the process kind of proves the point, to me…

  • @robdylan (Comment 25) : he didn’t denigrate him, he suggested that siya brings the physicality the boks will need against the argies, now when debating with a person who is dead-set in their views it is always advisable to keep calm and just bring the facts  that’s what i always do with Bav…

  • @Megatron (Comment 30) : you’re saying facts aren’t relative? :)

Ok, that wasn’t serious… so tell me. How do we objectively (and factually) measure up one player against another? Just stats?
