The Bulls team to face the Cheetahs has been announced, with coach Pine Pienaar making only one injury enforced change at the side of the scrum.

Arno Botha has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, allowing CJ Stander the opportunity to start the match, with Warwick Tecklenburg taking his spot on the bench.

Johann Sadie, who was injured during the Super Rugby season, and was reportedly fit for this match, fails to make the match 22 as Jan Serfontein retains his spot on the bench.

This is the only change to the team that comprehensively beat Griquas last weekend, and will hope to come away from Bloemfontein with a win over rivals the Cheetahs, after their opening round loss to the Lions.

Blue Bulls: 15 Jürgen Visser, 14 Akona Ndungane, 13 Ulrich Beyers, 12 Francois Venter, 11 Clayton Blommetjies, 10 Louis Fouchè, 9 Ruan Snyman, 8 Dewald Potgieter (captain), 7 CJ Stander, 6 Deon Stegmann, 5 Cornell Hess, 4 Wilhelm Steenkamp, 3 Frik Kirsten, 2 Willie Wepener, 1 Dawie Steyn

Substitutes: 16 Robbie Coetzee, 17 Werner Kruger, 18 Grant Hattingh, 19 Warwick Tecklenburg, 20 Lohan Jacobs, 21 Lionel Cronjè, 22 Jan Serfontein

  • Lionel Cronje will be more capable of getting their backline moving than Fouche.

  • Well the nice thing is that this will be a proper study of the depth in SA this year

  • Is Arno Botha in Meyers Springbok plans ? After this past weekend having watched him he certainly doesn’t deserve to be, and what about Jean Deysel?

  • @Talent (Comment 3) : which game were you watching,Arno was very good for Bulls, that said he’s not a blindside flanker,he’s an eightman and I can tell you now the only thing standing between and the Bok no.8 jersey is Spies playing 8 at the Bulls

  • @Ludz (Comment 4) :
…..and Dewald Potgieter, being a flank and now used as an eigthman? (Forget about him playing there when younger).

And Duane is apparently also in his way

Ignore. He gets things right sometimes. Other times you just wanna smack him on the forehead.

Arno Botha is a freak. Best young loose-forward in SA in my opinion. Not taking anything away from Marcell Coetzee who gets through a ton of work, or Siya Kolisi who makes big plays… but he’s a far more rounded player then either of those.

He just hasn’t been afforded the same opportunities in Pretoria, yet.

  • I wonder if Sadie going to the Cheetahs next year has anything to do with his non-selection.
