Nienaber gives Bulls bat

Western Province and the Stormers received a much-needed boost earlier today with the news that defence guru Jacques Nienaber has signed on for a further three years.

Nienaber, whose defensive systems have led to the Stormers being rated as the best defensive outfit in Super Rugby for two years running, was believed to be on his way to the Bulls, following the secondment of their own defence coach, John McFarland, to the national set up.

All of that talk has come to naught, though, with Nienaber opting to stay in the Cape, claiming that he has full faith in what coach Allister Coetzee is building at Newlands. The Bulls, it seems, will need to look elsewhere to plug one of the many holes that Heyneke Meyer’s raid on their back room staff has caused.
