No Bosman for Sharks

Marius Joubert comes in at inside centre in one of only two changes to the Sharks run-on fifteen for Saturday’s Currie Cup match against the Blue Bulls at Loftus.

The loss of Craig Burden to the national cause has necessitated a change at hooker, with 21-year-old Monde Hadebe handed his first start at this level. Another young hooker, Franco Marais, who like Hadebe represented his country at under 20 level, has been called up from the junior ranks to sit on the replacement bench.

Meyer Bosman, one of the form players for the Sharks over the last two weeks and also the first-choice goal-kicker, has failed to recover in time from a knee injury sustained against the Lions, meaning a start for Joubert in the somewhat unfamiliar number 12 jersey. The other player under an injury cloud, flakner Francois Kleinhans, has been passed fit and will start his second successive match wearing number 6.

The only other change to the match 22 sees the inclusion of a fifth forward on the bench. Brynard Stander, a stand-out player for the Sharks XV in the Vodacom Cup this year, could make his Currie Cup debut for the Sharks if called into action later in the game.

The Sharks

15. Louis Ludik, 14. Odwa Ndungane, 13. Paul Jordaan, 12. Marius Joubert, 11. S’bura Sithole, 10. Riaan Viljoen, 9. Charl McLeod, 8. Jacques Botes, 7. Jean Deysel (Captain), 6. Francois Kleinhans, 5. Anton Bresler, 4. Steven Sykes, 3. Wiehahn Herbst, 2. Monde Hadebe, 1. Dale Chadwick

16. Franco Marais, 17. Julian Redelinghuys, 18. Jandre Marais, 19. Lubabalo “Tera” Mtembu, 20. Brynard Stander, 21. Cobus Reinach, 22. Gouws Prinsloo

  • So dearly hope we can pull this one thru… We would be in such a great position if we can win this away game…

  • Team as expected ,

Bulls have settled combo’s so that worries me
    LIke the loose trio

9 and 10, and also the front row could stuff us up a bit , unless they have worked on their scrumming to where it was before,

Problem is again a new hooker and with any front row that can be very disruptive

    This will be tough.

we need to realise that this team is about the best available to the Sharks at the moment. They might be up against it this weekend but they need and deserve our support.

    Kyle Cooper
    Tim Whitehead
    Meyer Bosman
    Chris Cloete

Kanko and Freddy now elsewhere although Kanko will be back.

  • @sharks_lover (Comment 4) : Don’t worry about their 9/10. Fouche has looked average at best so far and Snyman is consistently, consistant (if that makes any sense) but nothing more.

I’d worry more about MJ at 12 against their young centres. I don’t think his tackling or distributing is that great, the latter meaning Jordaan won’t see as much ball.

Our loose trio is a very good one. Botes at 8 is an interesting call, but he has the ball skills and speed to improve on his last game in the position. Deysel was brilliant at 7 and Kleinhans was a workhorse at 6, which is what you want from you 6.

I’m pretty confident for this game.

It would be better if he just sent our captain back to us!

We’re stretched a little thin in terms of playing personnel at the moment and apart from Peet Marais and Rosco Speckman (neither of whom can kick for poles), I don’t think there’s a single fit guy left in the squad who hasn’t been picked to play on Saturday :)

  • It’s not the selectors’ faults. It’s a depth thing. We’ve lost Freddie which means we have Lambie and Bosman to kick – Viljoen and Steyn don’t count. For my money we need to recruit another kicker for the Currie Cup ASAP. Lambie is not going to be available so its only Bosman who can kick. God forbid Heynecke calls him up or he gets a longer term injury.

But if we do pull this thru I think we will be very difficult to beat anywhere in the country including Kimberley
