Cheetahs lock Francois Uys has received a two week suspension for a head-butt against Griquas in the Currie Cup last week.
The incident was called out by citing commissioner Freek Burger, who is, amazingly enough, still involved in the game after retiring as a ref towards the end of the Jurassic era. The player, at a subsequent hearing, admitted the offence but denied that it had been quite as serious as Burger suggested, insisting “Uys didn’t hit the face”… (groan).
Anyway, Judicial Officer Jannie Lubbe duly found the player guilty, with his prior clean record, admission of guilt and genuine remorse all serving as mitigation of sentence. Uys thus saw his ban reduced from four weeks to two.Tweet
