Former Lions winger Jannie Boshoff, who was instrumental in Griquas’ round four Currie Cup win against his former side on Friday, is a doubtful starter for Saturday’s game against the Sharks.
Griquas coach Pote Human told Rugby365 that Boshoff is again struggling with a chronic hamstring problem and as a result is unlikely to be risked this week, with either Richard Lawson or former Sharks man Zuks Vulindlu likely to take over in the number 14 jersey.
Another casualty from that win over the Lions is centre Walter Venter, himself a one-time stalwart in red and white, who took a knock to his shoulder. He’s considered likely to recover in time for the Sharks, though.
One player, in particular, who definitely will feature, to the likely detriment of the visitors, is in-form fetcher Marnus Schoeman and with the former Bulls youngster in sublime poaching form against the Lions in a man-of-the-match performance, the Sharks would do well to ensure that they protect their own ball a little better than they have done in recent weeks. With Schoeman providing the pacey Griquas backs with a surfeit of turnover ball with which to attack, it could be a long afternoon indeed for the Sharks, who need to go back a good few years to recall their last victory over Griquas in Kimberley.Tweet
