The Sharks have beaten Western Province by 43 to 27 at Kings Park, with a 4-try bonus point.

Far from the rugby played, the game will live on in infamy for the two red and one yellow card shown to Province forwards, leading to an unprecedented 15 against 12 contest for the last 10 minutes of the game.

Our man on the scene, Richard, will post a full match report tomorrow.

Sharks: 43. Tries by Botes (2), Daniel, penalty try. Conversions by Bosman (4). Penalties by Bosman (5).
WP: 27 Tries by Schreuder (2). Conversion by Catrikilis. Penalties by Catrikilis (5).

  • Sounds like a boxing match that broke out into rugby every now and again.
Meyer Bosman underlining his value as a kicker. Trips over his own feet with an open tryline on a dry field a month ago, slots penalties like a boss on a swamp pitch. Go figure :???:

  • @vanmartin (Comment 1) : Ja, but apparently one of the punches was so blatant, a blind ref would have heard it and sent the player off. ;-)

  • @CapeShark (Comment 3) : Not refering to either of the punches – both were the right calls. Punching, even in retaliation should always be a red.

  • 2 WP tries should never have been
1)Under the poles was a knock on before being scored
    2) Screuder try should have been a 5m scrum to Sharks
That 12point turn around would have put us on top!!

  • I was at the game and that ref was poor & his assistants as well.
When reinach didnt score that should have been a penalty for at least 2 early tackles.

  • And there should have been a penalty try for the two tackles without the ball on Keegan

  • yes officials did not do a good job with this game. Think WP is in some serious trouble with loose forwards as I’m sure both boxers will be suspended for atleast 3 weeks. Wonder if their captain marvel will cover 6, 7 and 8 next week? Geez I realy don’t like fourie and think he is overrated as a player by some of the comentators.

  • Shaun veldsman born in Worcester http://www.espnscrum.com/southafrica/rugby/player/14292.html ie cape province, ie western province advises ref to send deysel off after being punched in the face. Since when have they started allowing fans to be the TMO.

  • The Ref was clearly out of his depth and his assistants on the sidelines were fast asleep. As for Sean Veldsman – his knowledge of the rules is appalling. One hopes that he can be taken to task by SARU or whoever for his abysmal TMO’ing last night. However, I must say this confrontation has been brewing since we thrashed them at the Currie Cup final at KP 2 years ago – when Andries Strauss put their beloved captain into hospital with cracked ribs.

  • Well at least the 2 reds are automatic suspensions but for how long i wonder with the citing to come. As to Deysels yellow that was an absolutely woeful call. Why didnt veldsman say that sinclair started it by pulling deysels head backwards in a extremely bad angle?
