Quade Cooper will play no further part in the Rugby Championship, after scans to his knee revealed articular cartilage damage to his right knee, which he picked up in Australia’s win over Argentina this weekend.

SuperXV.com journalist, Tarryn Steenekamp (@tarryn_rugby) reports via her twitter feed that the flyhalf will be out of action for the remainder of the year. This is yet another injury blow to the Australians, who have already lost James Horwill, David Pocock and Will Genia to long term injuries.

This will surely open the door for Berrick Barnes to return to flyhalf and Kurtley Beale taking his fullback jersey again. The other option is to replace Cooper with a straight swop with fellow Reds playmaker Mike Harris. The pressure is firmly on Robbie Deans to finish off the Rugby Championship with wins in Argentina and South Africa, and his selections over the next few weeks should be interesting to follow.

  • Deans did wonders with the crusaders but somehow is unable to get the aussies going. Maybe the quality of players maybe the personnel at his disposal or the buy in from players. But he just isnt getting them to tick.

  • Crusaders (when he was in charge) will beat the Wallabies 9 out of 10 times.
