Griquas captain Ryno Barnes has served out the one-match ban he picked up for an elbow charge against the Sharks and duly returns to the starting lineup for this weekend’s game against Western Province, at Newlands.
Coach Pote Human and his side have fallen into some pretty decent form, winning all of their last three games, against big guns the Lions, Sharks and Blue Bulls. Their season got off to a poor start, with three losses in a row, but they’ve now steadied the ship and are looking a good bet for the semi-finals, with four weeks left to go. One fancies, though, that they will need to pull off a few more giant-killings along the way, though, with only one of those four matches to be played in Kimberley.
Barnes starts at hooker, relegating Matt Dobson to a bench role. Former Sharks wing Zuks Vulindlu has recovered from injury and comes back into the squad this week too, but there still no sign of Jannie Boshoff, who was withdrawn on the eve of last week’s match due to the sudden and tragic death of his father in a light aircraft accident.
