Most fans on his site will have heard of the book from a loved one or even have endured the movie. Whether or not that’s more traumatic than sitting through a Bok game is open to debate at this moment. Thanks to Heyneke Meyer we now have our own adaptation of the story every time the Boks play. It’s called “Kick, Chase, Pray” and is followed, without fail, by the rugby fans’ sequel of “Scream, Swear, Drink”!
Public opinion seems to be very against this tactic and against Morne Steyn as a flyhalf option for the Boks due to his dismal kicking displays this year. The questions everyone is asking are; When will we see a new Bok pivot, who will assume the mantle and will we finally start running the ball?
The Rugby Championship is over for us as a competition but it is the ideal time to start experimenting with a new flyhalf and a more expansive, ball-in-hand syle. Tactical kicking will always be a useful option but it isn’t the ONLY option!! The Boks tactical kicking has been terrible and it would be well worth it for the Bok management to recruit Ronan O’Gara or Johnny Wilkinson on a short-term contract to teach the Boks the art of kicking for the corners and not straight down the opposition’s throats!
It isn’t too late to set the Bok ship back on a true course to winning ways but it requires some bold decisons by Meyer and Co. Fingers crossed that Bok games (and team selections) of the future hold far less drama for the fans than the movie!Tweet
