The other Currie Cup game happening simultaneously, and the more pressing one at the top of the log, sees Western Province host their second game in two weeks at Newlands, playing a Lions side fresh off a victory over the Sharks.
Western Province beat Griquas last week to keep them in the hunt for the top of the log spot come the end of the season, and by beating the Lions today, could really jump the pack. Having lost Gio Aplon in the back three has forced Allister Coetzee into playing Damian de Allende on the wing.
The Lions, who have lost three players to the Springbok cause, have shuffled their team and this may cause the momentum that they have built up over the last few weeks to be lost. Butch James will however be sure to have a great impact on the game, having seen little time from the bench. This is sure to be a close match.
Western Province: 15 Joe Pietersen, 14 Gerhard van den Heever, 13 JP du Plessis, 12 Marcel Brache, 11 Damian de Allende, 10 Demetri Catrakilis, 9 Louis Schreuder, 8 Jebb Sinclair, 7 Tyrone Holmes, 6 Deon Fourie (captain), 5 De Kock Steenkamp, 4 Don Armand, 3 Frans Malherbe, 2 Siyabonga Ntubeni, 1 Steven Kitshoff.
Replacements: 16 Deon Carstens, 17 Brok Harris, 18 Wilhelm van der Sluys, 19 Helmut Lehmann, 20 Nic Groom, 21 Berton Klaasen, 22 Patrick Howard.
Golden Lions: 15 Andries Coetzee, 14 Deon Helberg, 13 Lionel Mapoe, 12 Dylan Des Fountain, 11 Ruan Combrinck, 10 Butch James, 9 Michael Bondesio, 8 Warren Whiteley, 7 Jaco Kriel, 6 Cobus Grobbelaar, 5 Franco Van der Merwe, 4 Michael Rhodes, 3 Jacobie Adriaanse, 2 Callie Visagie, 1 JC Janse van Rensburg (captain)

Lions win 22-9
weeping province are weeping again
how flipping useless are WP?
@robdylan (Comment 3) : Yeah our Coastal Brothers didn`t do us any favours here . . .
Prepare for another final at Ellis Park…
WHAT!!!! Hahahahaha!!!
Can u believe it…
I almost fell of my chair…
This was a surprise result for me…losing 4 players to the Bokke this week thought be a tough 1 for the Lions…
Seems the Lions are better than I thought…
Don’t underestimate the loss to WP. Habana, JdV, de Jongh, Etzebeth, Bekker, Vermeulen… All with the Boks.
“Prooooooooblemsss”…
With our injuries and bok call-ups, we stil made relatively light work of Prooooblems at home!!
End of October, Lions vs Sharks at Coca-cola park round 2…
@TRF_Ezequiel (Comment 8) :
The Lions have Taute, Pat, Jantjies, CJ all with the Bokke…
The only 2 great players you mentioned was Ezbeth and Habana…so don’t think much of a dif…plus you mentioned 2 centres which means a cut out of Broche or 1 of those two don’t play…
So think the 2 teams today were pretty evenly thinned out…
@blesbeer (Comment 9) :
We were good…but let’s not get ahead of ourselves…
2 tough games left before we can secure a home semi…
