Frans is crocked

Bad news for Sharks and Bok fans is that Frans Steyn needs immediate surgery on his injured ankle and will be out of all rugby for 3 months or more.

Steyn went over on his ankle during practice last week and while initial x-rays appeared to show no lasting damage, he was withdrawn from the Bok side to play Australia after failing a fitness test on Thursday. Team doctor Craig Roberts, though, appears to have changed his mind about the injury and has recommended that Steyn undergo an operation to sort out the problem.

This effectively curtails the big centre’s involvement with either Boks or Sharks for 2012. Here’s hoping that he will be fit in time to participate fully in pre-season training with the Sharks in January.

Roberts has also confirmed that Zane Kirchner is in doubt for Saturday’s test against the All Blacks, having picked up a hip injury while colliding with an unconscious Adam Ashley-Cooper. Nice one, Sideshow Bob…

  • You sound a bit upset with Kirchner’s injury :)

Hope Pat will have a blinder in a game I think the boks will struggle to win.

Just hope Frans’ injury doesn’t gets extended like Schalk’s. 3 months on will be January the 1st. In time to start with the S15 training.

  • Zane is reliable..but do we need reliable..this is the problem..we want a backline to destroy the opposition and I fear against nz he will be ineffective..australia were walk overs..the sharks currie cup team could probably match them..but a full strength nz team..that is another story..we can’t kick it to them and not expect dagg and co to run it at us…

  • Sory to say it, but Frans’ injury couldn’t come at a better time. Jean de Villiers is much better at inside center and in Durban we need Whitehead to get some gametime as well. I think both players are more suited for the current gameplan of their teams than Frans.

  • Are we now reduced to celebrating injuries to players we don’t like?

Spies a few days ago, and now Kirchner.
Come on guys. Try to show a bit more class.

  • Lambie to play like crap. Rob to blame it on Meyer denting his confidence and him being rusty.

    You heard it here first.

  • @Mutley (Comment 10) :

Drop Goosen for missing 2 kicks, one from 50-odd metres? Give the guy a chance

And Willem Alberts has been a lot better – while not always at the forefront – then people give him credit for. Part of a strong intimidating forward pack & loose-trio that has dominated the past 2 games. Why you would want to disturb that by bringing Coetzee in I don’t understand.

Alberts looks tired, give Coetzee a chance and I also rate Alberts more as an impact player of the bench. Goosen played ok, made a couple of line breaks but always runs away from his support. Jantjies deserves a chance to start in the nr 10 jersey, he has done much more than Goosen to warrant his selection.

  • I cant see the Bok team changing from last weekend. So not sure why re-inforcements are needed? So let Mapoe and Botha go hold tackle bags and water bottles while Keegan Daniel and co try win a currie cup.

  • @fyndraai (Comment 11) : Its hardly celebrating in the case of Kirchner. In Spies’ case it was but the real celebrating was done when Meyer finally dropped his love child Steyn (after destroying him mentally).

  • The loose forwards performed very well on Saturday…but I cant help wondering what the 3 loose trio would look like if Spies,Burger and Smith are all fit?? Or if Brussouw apologies for shagging Meyers wife (only explanation i can think of). Food for thought..Will Vermeulen,Coetzee be tossed aside? I also wonder how many tries the Boks may have created on Sat had Daniel been playing off the bench…his linking play has been taken to another level this year.
