Most people on the site know me pretty well by now, and you will know that I am not one to go around asking for favours or money, but circumstances have me donning my beggar’s hat.
Three weeks ago, 18 year old Wynand van der Watt, a pupil of my old school Kuswag Hoërskool, was in a motorcycle accident, and after three weeks in ICU at Albert Luthuli hospital, he sadly passed away on Sunday.
Now this may seem like just another story you read in the newspaper, but having come to know him, and his background, I feel something special needs to be done here.
Wynand was left to take care of himself and miraculously paid his own school fees by not only working as a waiter after school, but by doing anything he could to raise funds, all this just to pay his way to a decent education and getting ahead in life.
We have obtained two Sharks jersey signed by a host of players, one of which will be raffled off and another that we will auction over a few days next week, in an attempt to raise money to pay for his funeral and cover some costs.
The auction will start from a minimum R1000 mark, while tickets to win the raffle jersey will be sold for R50 each.
We have two jerseys, a Black Super Rugby jersey and the alternate strip White Super Rugby jersey.
The Black jersey will be up for auction and has the following signatures on it:
The White jersey that is up for raffle has the following signatures on it:
More detail regarding the auction will be published next week while tickets are already on sale for the raffle of the White jersey. If you are at all interested in buying a ticket or contributing by way of donation, please email me directly – Richard@sharksworld.co.zaTweet
