According to Lions CEO, Ruben Moggee, (courtesy of the KEO website) both Elton Jantjies and Jaco Taute will sign loan deals to the Stormers this week, ahead of the 2013 Super Rugby season, ending speculation that the young Springbok flyhalf could still be coming to Durban.
Taute confirmed that he will be signing with the Stormers last week, in a story that basically guaranteed him the jersey of his choice for the duration of Super Rugby, whether that jersey be the outside centre or fullback one, remains to be seen.
It seems that Jantjies will follow his fellow Springbok down to the Cape, where he is also supposedly guaranteed the flyhalf jersey ahead of Peter Grant and the other ten flyhalves on their books, something the Durban franchise is unable to do with the talented Pat Lambie in their ranks.
The deal, should it be true, will boost the Stormers chances in Super Rugby next season, as they will have two players in their backline who have actually won a trophy before.

going to do more harm than good for the stormers
I’m glad he and Taute is not coming to Durban. Will have Lambie at 10 ahead of Jantjies any day of the week and twice on sundays
Would’ve loved to have Taute in our squad. Imagine having him playing alongside a fit Francois Steyn or at fullback with Pat at 10? Think about it…
@jerryclive (Comment 3) : I agree with you, but it sounds like Taute wanted assurances that we were right not to give him
Judging on both Taute and Jantjies’ last performances only a nut would guarantee them starting berths as well as choice of position.
@jerryclive (Comment 3) : I’d rather us back our players that we have for the long haul. I honestly can’t see where I would fit Taute, as Ludick is playing some magnificent rugby and we are gonna struggle to choose between our four centres next year as it stands at the moment. I would have liked it if their loose head prop came to Durban to be backup to Beast though
@Salmonoid (Comment 5) : agree
@KingRiaan (Comment 6) : and agree
Our boys delivered us a place in the Super Rugby final… what did the Lions boys deliver?
@robdylan (Comment 4) :
Beside that, how constructive is it to have these guys for just one season? The Sharks have many years of experience bringing in players for just 1 or 2 seasons just to stall the development of our own players.
I would welcome Taute as a permanent signing, but I’m glad we didn’t get him for just a SR season.
@Big Fish (Comment 8) : yes – 100%
Glad to hear we did not get elton. We now will have to back our youngsters in the backline next year, hope we do the same with our young locks and don’t play vd merwe to much.
@robdylan (Comment 4) : Well done to management, a player should never be guaranteed a starting position. He must compete for a position like the rest of his team mates.
@robdylan (Comment 4) :
i think its more a case of The Lions looking for assurance ? Wouldent make sense to loan out a player to somebody where he wont play . well to me anyway
