The Sharks have unfortunately picked up an injury concern ahead of Saturday’s Currie Cup semi-final against the Blue Bulls in Durban.
Right wing Odwa Ndungane, who has been one of the side’s most consistent performers – as well as the top try-scorer – during the league stages, injured his ankle early on during Friday’s 42-3 win over Griquas. Ndungane showed a clean pair of heels after some wonderful interplay with Jean Deysel and Cobus Reinach on the right hand side of the field and came agonisingly close to going all the way himself in the 10th minute of the match. An ankle tap just meters fro the line saw him go to ground, though and while his pop back to Reinach duly saw the scrumhalf swallow dive in next to the posts, Ndungane himself was less fortunate.
He limped off immediately after, in considerable pain and it now appears that the ankle injury he picked up may well see him spend a spell on the sidelines.
While Lwazi Mvovo, as a current Bok squad member, would in all likelihood have been down to start ahead of Ndungane this weekend anyway, the Sharks nevertheless appear to have lost one of their best fielders of the high ball, against a side who made good use of aerial bombardment in their own weekend victory over the Lions.Tweet
