Aussies call on experience for All Black clash

Australia and New Zealand clash for the third time this year when they tackle each other at the Suncorp Stadium on Saturday, for nothing more than our viewing pleasure, after the All Blacks secured the Bledisloe Cup during the Rugby Championship already.

The last time New Zealand lost an international match was a few weeks before the Rugby World Cup in 2011, when they took on Australia in a friendly warm up match, and I am quite sure the All Blacks will be more focused this time around, especially with that record on the line.

The Australians are not taking it lightly though, calling in the heavy cavalry for this match with recalls to the starting team for Adam Ashley-Cooper and Wycliff Palu, while winger Drew Mitchell returns to the bench after a series of horrid injuries that were expected to keep him out of the game until next year.

Australia will look to build momentum after a good finish to the Rugby Championship in Argentina, before they embark on their own End of Year Tour, with Robbie Deans hoping for a surprise win over the All Blacks, a win that will be only his fourth victory in 18 matches against the All Blacks.

Australia: 15 Mike Harris, 14 Nick Cummins, 13 Ben Tapuai, 12 Pat McCabe, 11 Adam Ashley-Cooper, 10 Kurtley Beale, 9 Nick Phipps, 8 Wycliff Palu, 7 Michael Hooper, 6 Scott Higginbotham, 5 Nathan Sharpe, 4 Sitaleki Timani, 3 Ben Alexander, 2 Tatafu Polota Nau, 1 Benn Robinson.

Replacements: 16 James Hanson (Saia Fainga’a), 17 James Slipper, 18 Kane Douglas, 19 Dave Dennis, 20 Liam Gill, 21 Brett Sheehan, 22 Drew Mitchell.

  • News just broke that Saia Fainga’a will not take part in this weekend’s clash after picking up an injury, and will be replaced on the bench by James Hanson.
