We reported earlier in the week that both Andries Bekker and Tiaan Liebenberg would be missing the Western Province semi-final clash against the Lions. New filtering through last night confirmed the worst for both players though.

Andries Bekker has been ruled out for 6 to 8 weeks, while Tiaan Liebenberg will be out of action for 2 to 3 months, meaning both these Springboks will be missing in action when they tour Europe in the End of Year tour.

Bekker has picked up some sort of big toe injury while Liebenberg has hurt his back, and now takes the total of new / recent injuries ruling players out of the End of Year Tour to four, with Johan Goosen and Coenie Oosthuizen also ruled out.

I’d like to think so but with Meyer’s history of player management he’ll probably take another hooker on tour without giving Burden a chance to play.

    Have to agree with you..

I won’t be surprised if Chilliboy jumps Adriaan Strauss into the starting team.

Unfortunately you’re right.I suppose,to be fair, Chilliboy has the inside lane on Burden and if fit should tour with the Boks.

Burden will also tour because they will have at least 3 hookers in the squad but I doubt he’ll get game time unless there is another injury.

  • Is it just me or does Bekker always get “injured” for the less important internationals? Crocked for the England games, crocked for year end tour, fine for Rugby Champs?

Not saying he’s getting managed into it, but if he were it would suck big time.

Three more Currie Cup games to come, don’t rule out another injury!

But agreed, he will tour and carry tackle bags in the cold in Europe.. Better than the Durban heat, I am sure!!

  • Chiliboy deserves to start against of Strauss, IMO, cos he’s a far better hooker.

  • I reckon Chilli was second in line….I’d rather see him starting than our Feeestate Hooker-come-fh.

Strauss is always in the backline ready to grab the ball when he shouldn’t. I haven’t been too impressed with him.

And Bekker injured….AGAIN?! Maybe he’s too soft for rugby, he’d be sublime playing a sport like Jukskei or bowls….no impact, no defense required, shouldn’t even be called a sport – perfect for Andries.
