The Cheetahs have again decided to release Robert Ebersohn to play Sevens rugby in the off season, where he will play in two tournaments before returning for preseason training in January.

Ebersohn and two other Cheetah players, Phillip Snyman and Kevin Luiters, joined the Sevens training in Stellenbosch on Monday, where they train ahead of the Dubai and Port Elizabeth legs of the Sevens World Series.

Snyman will now permanently be involved with the Sevens squad after playing his last game in the fifteen man setup last Friday against the Kings, while Luiters was invited to practice with the squad as he was being considered for the squad to travel to Dubai.

Sevens coach Paul Treu was also reportedly after Willie le Roux, but the Cheetahs held onto the young fullback while he is involved with pre-season training for 2013 Super Rugby.

The Dubai Sevens World Series event is played from November 30-01 December, with the Port Elizabeth one on December 08-09.

  • I wonder if any of the bigger unions have approached Willie le Roux?

  • Rhule would have benefited tremendously from a few games at sevens level, instead he’ll be carrying tackle bags and have his natural talent to run with the ball be converted to chasing aimless kicks…
