  • I’m glad Habana is playing good rugby again.

It started of with a high work rate in Super Rugby and continued in even better form for the Boks. It sucks for him that he picked up an injury.

  • Try of the Year: Bryan Habana (All Blacks
    vs Springboks, Dunedin)

I am sorry , but personally I really felt that was not such a good try compared to others around. If you go look, 1st, Ruan slips with the ball from a terrible line out, then Habana goes through, chip it, which goes way off as he slices the chip, and then pounces on the ball.

  • I think all the awards were spot on, considering Bismark has been out injured. Keegan deserved an award although I do think Bismark was our star player in the S15. The fact Keegan got it instead of the main award is cool. Habana had a great season both internationally and domestic. Etzebeth will win lots more awards I think. Sharks team gettting team of the year for consistent form rather than winning the titles. Good call. Baby Boks must have come close but right call made.

  • @Letgo (Comment 1) : Habs has had a good year for the Stormers showing glimpses of what made him winners of the award previously but it was with the Boks that his form really returned. I wonder if its any coincidence that Heyneke Meyer (whom I presume played a huge role in Habanas early career) was now the Bok coach. I think Habana thrives under HM tutelage.

  • Personally I though the Sharks S15 team would be more deserving of the team award – for the heroics in making the final. I guess their inconsistent performances at the start of the season counted against them

  • @Salmonoid (Comment 9) : habana’s form improved for the Stormers before they went to play for the Boks so in my mind, heyneke meyer has nothing to do with habana’s return to form.

  • @Megatron (Comment 12) : Baby Boks probably should have been it in terms of success.

The Stormers did not deserve it – loosing the semi at home against an exhausted Sharks unit with all the advantage on their side. To me that was a bigger choke than the Sharks in the Currie Cup final.

  • @Megatron (Comment 17) : Mmm, Stormers lost after resting a week and then playing a team that just had to travel to Aus and back in a matter of two weeks. The Stormers were overwhelming favourites to win that match.

That “hooker” is actually a pretty decent open side as his pilfering stats from the S15 showed – IMO better at open side than he is at hooker.

The Sharks lineout has been rubbish for a while now. The only time it actually worked this year was with both Bissie and Kanko on form.

  • Actually come to think of it John Smit (in the absence of Bismarck) could have added more value to the Sharks than Schalk to the Stormers.

Personally I think the Stormers will have a seriously strong team for next year’s S15. In fact for them not to win it, will be a big choke  provided they use Groom at 9 and chase Duvenhage away.

  • @Megatron (Comment 18) : I am with Keegan on this one. I have been forced to attend 100s of awards ceremonies in my time and they are boring as hell and largely a complete waste of time. I have won two awards and on the last occasion was asked to travel to Golden Gate to attend the ceremony. I made sure that before I went to the considerable effort of travelling almost 800km on a round trip it was not going to be another complete waste of time. Of course the organisers know who has won before the time. So it’s perfectly reasonable for Keegan to ask that if he has to take a day out of his leave that he knows it’s for a reason and not merely wasting his precious free time. Would you give up your hard-earned holiday to travel to the back of beyond to sit through six hours of waffle and learn you hadn’t won something?

I stand corrected, but not even the Crusaders have managed to win a playoff / semi / final game after having to travel to SA and back. Sharks actually made history with that win
