Former Sharks and Springbok flyhalf Butch James will once again don the Black and White of the Sharks as his move back to the franchise has been confirmed.

James took to twitter with the announcement, stating – “Officially Black & White for next year! Its good to be home”.

The 33 year old World Cup winning player is said to be backup to Pat Lambie for the 2013 Super Rugby season while mentoring the young flyhalves coming through the ranks in Fred Zeilinga and Robert du Preez.

  • As long as Lambie plays only at flyhalf, and Butch is really only used as backup.

  • @Megatron (Comment 10) : As long as one of them is for a stiff arm tackle to the head of Luke Watson then I’m okay with it.

I’m not looking forward to the new SR season for 2 reasons.
    1. We’ll have the same “this is the season for the Sharks” crap all over.
    2. Ask me I’ll give you an opinion will be back in the media.

  • More importantly there are reports on News24 and Beeld that Lambie has been at 10 during the Bok practice sessions.

  • @vanmartin (Comment 12) :

The Sharks site is about as reliable as Morne Steyn’s goal kicking at this stage..

I waited for official confirmation, which came from the player himself in this case..

  • @Bokhoring (Comment 15) : I hope he makes it count. Sometimes these end of year tours can be more of a curse than a blessing. He just needs to make sure he steps up and make it a blessing.

  • I am not sure whether to be excited about Butch or not. He was a good solid player (barring these wandering arms every now and then  ) but some of his showing at the Lions weren’t that exciting. Imo he was quite instrumental in their loss to the Bulls in the last game of round-robin.

  • @rekinek (Comment 21) : I’m with you. A lot of mixed feelings on this one – would have been much more excited if a full-time specialist coach was announced. Maybe in time he can fulfill that role.

  • @rekinek (Comment 19) : He obviously know that when the Sharks are favourites (even against 15 blue and white striped drums) they manage to still lose. So he is not actually praising us he is trying to nuetralise us. :)

  • Butch looked good at 10, it was at 12 he looked bad. He will help youngsters a lot, just don’t let him give them tackle advice.
