Adongo joins Kings for Super Rugby

Former Sharks, Bulls and Counties Manakau looseforward/lock Daniel Adongo has joined the Kings on loan from the Leopards for the Super rugby season. Former Lions hooker Edgar Marutlulle has also joined the Kings on loan from the Leopards.

The Kings are the latest stop in a rugby journey for the big Kenyan which has promised much but seems to have fallen short of the immense hype that his speed and bulk have produced.
Adonga, a Sharks academy graduate, joined the Bulls this time last year with a lot of fanfare. The Bulls were supposedly going to turn this physical beast into a rugby super star and Springbok. Despite scoring a hat trick on his debut, Adongo’s Bulls career did not quite take off as planned and he was eventually released from his contract with them and allowed to join Tana Umaga’s Counties Manakau side for the ITM Cup.

The latest news on Adongo (courtesy of Michael Green from Die Burger) is that he is back in the country and contracted to the Leopards from whom he will be loaned to the Kings for Super rugby duty.

On behalf of Sharksworld I would like to wish Daniel all the best on his new adventure in the Eastern Cape.

  • He needs to be patient and settle down. He’s good but so are many others. He can’t shine if he’s jumping from team to team.

  • Couldn’t make it at the Sharks.
Couldn’t make it at the Bulls.
Couldn’t make it at Counties Manakau.
Why would he become brilliant at the Kings?

  • I watched him play for Counties and he was amazing! Such a high workrate!!

Why isn’t he staying in New Zealand after Super Rugby? Moving to the Leopards seems like a bad career move.

  • Should have played 7′s for Kenya in 2013. Would have given him more exposure than playing for Leopards.

  • Another club?
Not a great sign if he can’t even stay at one for a season. I wonder what the issue is.

  • Good move by him IMO. Watch him be picked up by a big team after playing S15 at the Kings.

The guy just needs exposure and he will get it in SR.

  • @KSA Shark © (Comment 9) : don’t think he will get much game time as he will at best ride the bench for the kings before going to leopards for currie cup. Maybe will go to Cheetahs for 2014.
