Stormers face fresh hooker crisis

A pre-season shoulder injury picked up by young hooker Siyabonga Ntubeni has cause a wee bit of consternation in Stormers rugby circles, with the spotlight being shone on their lack of hooking options ahead of next month’s Super Rugby kick-off.

With first-choice rake Tiaan Liebenberg still on the sidelines following a serious neck injury sustained during the latter stages of last year’s Currie Cup, the non-availability of Ntubeni – who has been told to rest for around a month – sees Deon Fourie as the only fit hooker in their squad, that notwithstanding the fact that he spent the entire Currie Cup competition in the back row, rather than the front.

According to Beeld’s Stephen Nell, coach Allister Coetzee has confirmed that he’s looking to bring in cover from outside the squad.
