Bulls and Springbok flyhalf Morne Steyn will leave the Bulls at the end of the Super Rugby season.
Reports this morning on the Eye Witness News website state that Steyn will leave the Bulls after the Super Rugby season concludes, and that his likely destination is Stade Francais, according to his agent, Johan van Greune.
Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer’s selection policy of selecting overseas based players means that both Morne Steyn and Bryan Habana will remain available for selection to represent their country.

I’m sure that has been on the cards for a while
quick on the draw here Rich – well done mate. I was just about to open my notepad and lick the end of my pencil and you already have the story up
Now Elton, Goosen and lambie can fight it out for the jersey. Hopefully Peter Grant, Catrakillis, Lionel Cronje and Louis Fouche can also put their hats into the ring.
Heyneke will have to move away from his gameplan of kicking every ball and now the wings will get a chance to run.
@ChrisS (Comment 4) : Hay – is that a unicorn I see at the end of your rainbow?
@robdylan (Comment 3) : I was just writing to you about this.
This feels like Christmas all over again
@robdylan (Comment 5) : Haha! This is a magical and happy day so it’s quite possible!
@ChrisS (Comment 6) : Don’t forget that Steyn will still be available for the Boks, meaning that the only member of the Morne Steyn fanclub (Heyneke Meyer) can still (and no doubt will) pick him for the Boks.
Even if he doesn’t he’ll just force the new flyhalf to do those retarded kicks anyway.
Aaawwwwwwwww – Now how are we supposed to mock the bulls?
….Victor Matfield as attacking coach springs to mind
And by next year the whole of planet blue will be on the Pollard bandwagon
@FireTheLooser (Comment 9) : I hope that they give Fouche a fair chance. He’s got potential.
@Butchie34 (Comment 8) :
Way to kill the positive vibes!
@ChrisS (Comment 7) : never lose that enthusiasm
@ChrisS (Comment 10) : Sorry… I’m being audited so I’m stuck in a dark place at the moment.
@Butchie34 (Comment 8) :
Mr. kill-joy
@robdylan (Comment 11) : I won’t. I still believe in that fairytale of the Boks running the ball and scoring tries
@Butchie34 (Comment 12) : That explains it all!
@ChrisS (Comment 14) : I have seen it! It was 97 and we ran the ball. And LO! tries were scored.
Not sure WTF happened since then.
For some reason I want to run down my office passages singing ‘Oh when the saints’!!! It’s not logical, but I am so happy.
I even walked around the office congratulating the Bulls fans (and there are A LOT in Secunda)on his departure
@robdylan (Comment 16) : Carel du Plessis was fired and hence forward all Bok coaches need to get neutered before taking up the position.
It must always be safety first!! YAWN!!
@Butchie34 (Comment 18) : Nah… I meant under Mallet (he was after du Plessis, wasn’t he?)
@robdylan (Comment 16) : I remember ’97…(just wiping away a tear)
Not sure where we went wrong from there. Think the coaches got size-obsessed and forgot about skill!
@robdylan (Comment 19) : He was… sorry I immediately thought of the annihilation of the Wannabies at Loftus under Carel when you mentioned running rugby.
All of a sudden it became more important for the flyhalf to be able to kick the ball between the posts rather than having a brain to spread the ball. Running Bok rugby died when the greatest flyhalf of all time, Lem, was injured through RWC ’99 and Jannie de Beer (as good as he was) (but still not a Honiball) was entrusted with the flyhalf position.
@robdylan (Comment 19) : Du Plessis, Mallett, Viljoen, Straueli, White, P Divvy and Meyer
@robdylan (Comment 19) : @ChrisS (Comment 20) : It’s one of the reasons why I always look forward the Super Rugby. At least we know that the Sharks (apart from a few isolated years) will always be willing to give it a go and not resort to dull Bok rugby of only hoisting the ball. I actually get depressed when I think of having to watch the Boks recently.
@Butchie34 (Comment 21) : Rumour from the Bok Camp has it that there was a competition to try and kick the skin off the ball and that the first person to do so would win a prize. Therefore, from 1999 onwards, Bok flyhalves have been trying their best to win the prize.
@ChrisS (Comment 24) : Direction and strategic value didn’t matter but height got you extra points…
@ChrisS (Comment 25) : Just means that whenever the Boks play I am bored shiftless
@Butchie34 (Comment 23) : You and me both. I actually walked out of a few games last year as I was getting so frustrated!
@ChrisS (Comment 27) : Best excuse I had was that I lit a fire at half time if the Boks are particularly boring I could just go outside to make sure ‘the fire didn’t die before we could slap our meat on’. That way I was busy and didn’t have to worry about one dimensional attack.
@Butchie34 (Comment 28) :
Wish I’d thought of that…I’d just quietly walk out at halftime and sob into a pillow!
Wish we’d had one dimensional attack…that was NO dimensional attack!
@ChrisS (Comment 29) : Up is a direction (and dimension)
Au Revoir Morne!
The last thing Stade needs is another crap flyhalf… Why does he have to go to play for my French team??
best thing for the bulls unfortunately
@Butchie34 (Comment 30) : Hahaha!!Nicely played!
@lostfish (Comment 32) :
That’s going to be hard to handle…..eina!
Whoooohooooo!!!! Now we just need Beyonce to lose her voice, and the cast of Twilight to somehow become involved in an accident involving a time machine, and leading to the series being erased from existence, and we’ll have a feel-good trifecta for the day!
@Pokkel (Comment 35) : I am feeling conflicted. Will I be able to support them if he is playing???
@lostfish (Comment 37) : that’s why I don’t support any NH teams… it’s far too likely that a Bull will end up playing for them at some stage
@robdylan (Comment 38) : Any idea who this Francois van der Merwe is who is playing for Racing Metro?
Somebody said he’s related to Flip but I’m not sure.
@robdylan (Comment 38) : Ugh, it sucks. Every time he would get the ball I would be willing the opposition to tackle him as hard as possible
@ChrisS (Comment 39) : He is that creepy looking lock who played for WP when their tight 5 was a light 5.
@ChrisS (Comment 39) : yes, Flip’s brother. Also a lock, I think he played for WP for a few years.
Even softer than his boet, if memory serves.
@robdylan (Comment 42) : part of that really rubbish light 5 WP sported for a few years.
@robdylan (Comment 3) : Carbon deficiency?
@lostfish (Comment 43) : ah yes. With Rob Linde?
@klempie (Comment 44) : humour deficiency?
@robdylan (Comment 46) : Not nice…season hasn’t even started yet!
@klempie (Comment 47) : sorry, you’re right… I’ll be nice
for now…
@robdylan (Comment 42) : Thanks Rob.
@lostfish (Comment 41) : And Thanks Lostfish
Do the guys up north even watch our rugby? If so why the hell did they buy steyn? Do you guys think they know they bought morne and not frans?
