Sharks XV side taking shape

The shadow Sharks XV team recorded a resounding 68-7 win over the Griffons in a pre-Vodacom Cup warm-up match this weekend, with the combinations selected showing some insight into coach Sean Everitt’s thinking ahead of the season opener in a fortnight’s time.

As is generally the case for these sort of games, information is sketchy; we have, however, managed to piece together the Sharks XV starting line-up, as well as the try scorers on the day.

Left wing Sizo Maseko was the clear stand-out, scoring five of the ten tries the Sharks XV recorded. Other tries were scored by prop Allan Dell, lock Peet Marais, flank Brynard Stander, wing S’bura Sithole and number 8 Johan Meyer. Nine of the ten were converted, although we’re not sure how many were kicked by which players. The assumption is that Fred Zeilinga (flyhalf) would have put most of them over.

Here is how the Sharks XV lined up for the game:

15 Gouws Prinsloo, 14 S’bura Sithole, 13 Marius Joubert, 12 Heimar Williams, 11 Sizo Maseko, 10 Fred Zeilinga, 9 Stefan Ungerer, 8 Johan Meyer, 7 Brynard Stander, 6 Francois Kleinhans, 5 Peet Marais, 4 Jandre Marais, 3 Allan Dell, 2 Franco Marais, 1 Danie Mienie

We unfortunately don’t have any info on replacements.

The Sharks XV kick off their Vodacom Cup campaign against the Border Bulldogs, in Durban on 8 March.

  • I hope that we also use the guys from Rovers with Currie Cup and Super Rugby experience.

Greg Goosen, Chris Jordaan, Nicolai Blignauut, Mox Mxoli…they’ll add to an already impressive squad!

  • Great to see Sbura, Allan and Johan in the side, all products of the great Queen’s College, Allan was lucky enough to be in the 1st XV when Sbura was captain in 08, also Johan played with Allan for 2 years in 2009 and 2010. It is Johan and Sbura who were playing in the same team for the 1st time
