Hands up if you’ve ever heard the name “Hencus van Wyk”…. ok, me neither.
The young prop, who’s been playing for Tukkies in the Varsity Cup, joins the Bulls Super Rugby tour party as the fourth front-ranker and will look to win a maiden cap during the course of the tour.
There are no further surprises in the group, with Bjorn Basson included, even though he will only join up with the team in a week’s time, after his ankle injury has cleared.
The Bulls play the Blues in Auckland this weekend, before moving on to face the Crusaders, Reds and Brumbies in what is being dubbed the “tour from hell”.

On paper the Bulls will be lucky to score one win on tour, but on the day anyone of the Reds and Brumbies can be taken.
Even the Crusaders are vulnerable this early in the season.
Blues will definitely demolish the Bulls, as is the case every year.
@FireTheLooser (Comment 1) : I agree with you…. rugby isn’t played on paper. The Bulls will pick up a win somewhere along the way. Crusaders are vulnerable.
@FireTheLooser (Comment 1) : I agree. Also the Brumbies wil play the bulls as the first game back home after a tour to SA. Maybe some jetlag will influence the game in the Bulls favour…
Hencus was u19 tighthead in 2011 and was u21 tighthead for Bulls last year
@Ludz (Comment 4) : is he shit like all their other props?
@robdylan (Comment 5) : he’s okay, does what’s required of him and has a nice work rate, scrums okay. Nothing to write home about, but solid enough
The flip side of the “tour from hell” is that you get the easier games at home. Target week 2 and 3 against the Crusaders and Reds for 5 points from the tour, save some energies for many 5-pointers at Loftus and the Bulls should be there about come play-off time.
